This is kind of cool. Will the stats update automatically?

Last year, my rule of thumb was no micros. This year, I have went for everything but with a 50-75% micro success rate. If I was just starting at caching, I would concentrate on the ammo box caches just to keep the frustration level down. Our Rest and Read cache is very easy as well as Pelishek’s Toybox II and the nearby Leaving Clinton.
I enjoy the winter caches because there are less chores to ignore at home and it’s an easy way to keep the winter weight off. Just stay away from the micros, dress warm and pick and choose the easy ones.

Congrats Jeff! It sounds like you realy earned those last couple of caches. I hope you at least found a decent Mctoy in the cache box after all that.
Thanks all for your kind words. And thank you to wzbt03 and Natloh2 for their help during a three day weekend starting on the 14th. Over the three days we hit Rockford, Geneva and Schaumburg Illinois and I totaled 65 caches found. And of course their companionship was far more important than the number of caches. Thanks guys, lets do it again sometime.
Just posted a bunch of pictures on the Milestone Gathering Event cache. Very cute! Even the Beast!
Great event Jeff – we all really appreciated everything you did to put this together. And the added bonus of getting a sneak peek at caches approved but not online – see you should have shown up!!!
I also had problems at first with the progarm. Connect the gpsr to the computer before turning the computer on. I know usb is suposed to be hot swap but it seems to make a diference on my system. Make sure the baud rate on the gpsr (under setup on my Magellan) and the program match. Set up the program to the right port. I just try all three ports until one works. All of these settings are under file/preferences/my gps receiver/settings. Hope this helps some.
I hope we did not miscalculate our totals. Is it that some of our latest finds were in Illinois and they don’t count as a full find? We saved Kid’s Quest For Cache #3 by SBHTT to be our 600th so the whole family could be there. Our count shows 601 but maybe we missed something. Oh well, I guess we can find a few more.

Sorry Alan, the race is over. We sacrificed the house, tied the kids in the car and gave the dog to the neighbor. Nice try, but I guess that 70 find lead we had didn’t give you much of a chance. Race you to 700!
Way to go Alan! It’s always a pleasant suprise to see you on the trail. I’ll race you to 600.
Very nice page Cheesehead! I really miss Dan Miller’s page, it gave me an idea of what everyone else was doing. Yes, I am a competative person and I have not cached as much since Dan’s page went down. I think the finds/day feature is a great idea and gives me something to shoot for. Would it be possible to add columns for Wisconsin finds and hides?
I have come across a new problem with paperless caching. I download a gpx file from gc.com and download it into watcher. I then convert it using gpsbabel to us on the gps, pda and Streets and Trips. This has worked well except for the caches placed by Genius Loci. Why won’t his caches convert? I looked on the cache page and he does not use any fancy symbols or logos. Can someone answer this?
Thanks to Rpaske for this sugestion. I had bought a pda a few months ago but gave up on it because I could not master plucker. Cachemate made all this very easy and we are now paperless. Thanks again rpaske.
I was just thinking, how about if we offer informal help to all newbies on a regular basis. I think the breakfast caches could be an ideal forum to start with. I don’t want to step on the Beast’s toes, but if we could invite interested newbies to the breakfast, they could then be paired with an experienced volunteer for a couple of caches. Obviously UWM believes there are enough people interested in it to fill a class so some may show up for the breakfast. We could even post a flyer at REI or Gander Mountain to spread the word. Of course I would help out in any way needed.
MikeThanks everyone for the congrats and thanks to Lil Otter for placing all the caches. I found 21 caches yesterday (a personal best) and 20 of them were placed by the Otter. As many of you know, I have been looking for a job the last 9 months and caching has been a great release from the stress. But I do have good news, I found a job right here in town (a 4 minute commute instaed of my previous 90 minute one)and start next week!!! This may slow down my caching a little but now I can eat those expensive value meals for a cache break instead of Cindy’s pbjs.
Thanks to everyone for their support and I hope to keep the cache a day pace going. Thanks to Otter, I can take 3 weeks off and still keep the pace.Mike and Cindy
Thanks for placing these caches. We are always looking for caches to do as a family. With more quality caches (harder, longer and less family friendly) and less quantity caches (easier 1 stars for the kids) it’s getting harder to bring the kids along. I hope we can place a few with this in mind.
