Jack Pine Savage’s caches in the Clark County Forest are really good, and in a pretty undeveloped area. You’ll have the area mostly to yourself, and there have been quite a few bear sightings in the area, though we never seem to get lucky enough.

Sorry for my density… which group of caches is this referring to?

I was able to do some of the caches in Lowe’s creek last year. I had both my sons with me (2 and 0 at the time) and so I was only able to get a handful but the ones I did get to were pretty neat. If I wind up going into town to cache, that’s probably where I’ll start.

Yeah, I’ve gone back and forth about Bjornson. I have driven past it before a couple times. But I think I can fill a day caching without having to drive quite as far. Less drive = more caching. Know what I’m sayin’ 😉

That’s a good point, Sammy. I guess I was thinking it was more of a global “policy” issue but you’re right… the way the cache owner designed the cache itself has alot to do with it. And since they haven’t deleted the many “multiple” logs entered, it would seem to indicate that they’re ok with it.

That’s very insightful, I guess it’s not a “policy” but more of a case by case “characteristic” of the cache.

    Thanks, Sammy.

USA Photo Maps will open the GPX file. If you’re not familiar with USA Photo maps, it’s a little different. You can download “grids” of high and low res photos and also roads (by county). It’s great software but not immediately intuative, but the help section is great. It’s free too. Also, Easy GPS can sort of map what you’ve loaded, but witout roads, it jsut shows them relative to each other.

But I recommend USA Photo maps, it’s pretty neat. If you do it on a laptop, you can even take the photos with you on the road because they are physically downloaded and are really small (B&W)

Dale’s posts are always fun to read. Especially for the owner of the cache. I was glad to meet Dale and his son at an event a few weeks ago… he’s one to watch out for. He’s going to out-cache us all! 😉 Keep up the good work, Dale.

I thought this was a legit request becuase my cache had been disabled for a while. I didn’t know he was bugging everyone else too. I responded back via e-mail. I wonder if I gave my e-mail address to a weirdo?

Been there, did that earlier this summer. My favorite was the one on the bridge that goes over the creek. We parked in town at the gas station. The trail north of there is all grass and the southmost 3/4 miles is all grass too, but other than that it’s real easy. There’s also a big hill right at the southmost road it crosses. My wife even found 2 caches without the coords. She just thought it looked like a good spot for a cache, and sure enough 🙂

Great power trail though.. definately go for it!

You better get your hands on the movie rights now! If it worked for Milo and Otis, it should work for tupperware! (Or ammo cans, or peanut butter jars…etc)

in reply to: Lame Earthcaches #1887627

This is a frustration I’ve had in the field and pertains to other types of caches as well but I wonder if it would be a good practice for the owner to list any logging requirements in the hint of the cache (in addition to the description). The reason I suggest this is becuase the hint is usually part of the data that gets transferred to the GPS (depending on the model of course). Some models get the description (or part of it) as well.

This is especially handy when you can’t lookup the description readily and don’t have the print out with you.

    Thoughts?

“Basement Full of Water” – GC12V5R is one I did the other day. I actually trie dlast winter but there was too much snow. It’s neat becuase it’s an old farmhouse that existed before the dam was built. Theres the remains of a barn on what is now an island close to the house and I guess there’s remains of a silo underwater now too. Kind of neat to check out. Makes me wonder how many other oddities there are under the water becuase of the dam.

WOW! 50 miles! That must be alot! Nice job! You’re a good sport 🙂 I love that line… “we don’t have to look for ones we don’t want to” LOL! Is there someone twisting his arm!? … We won’t banish him if he lets one slip by every once in a while 🙂

Well, congratulations, anyway. That’s a very impressive feat!

in reply to: Event Idea #1892203

Yeah… the bus thing would have to be something for when there’s a huge park or concentrated urban area of caches that each cacher would have to walk to. The bus certainly couldn’t be hopping from cache to cache.

But I didn’t know that about the GC.com rules regarding events. That’s ok too… it just seemed like a good way to communicate the “tour” as Marc called it. But sending out e-mails would probably work too… Just include a “send this to 5 of your caching friends within 5 minutes or your gpsr will be cursed and you’ll never find a cache again”. The whole world will know about it!

I guess it’s a moot point … I’m not organized enough to put something like this together anyway 🙂 But I know someone who is 😈 Thanks for the feedback, guys…

so to continue… do you think this would be a popular idea or are most people not that “into” caching to take a daytrip?

in reply to: Train Your Geo-Dog to Cache! #1891951

Uh uh, no way! I already bought a gps, a kayak, I dunno how many gallons of gas, and who knows what else… I am NOT going to buy a dog to support this habbit. (I will not buy a dog, i will not buy a dog… I will not..) Have to draw the line somewhere.

Besides, I could not stand the shame of being out cached by a dog!

“OVER IT”!? Can’t an ammo can be used as an urn?
