I think I have already been volunteered for this. My wife is taking the Master Naturalist Volunteer training and signed on for the project.

Is it possible to bring back the “posts since your last visit” feature like the old web site.  I liked that better than the Recent Posts by topic list we have now.  It seems there are only about a dozen topics kept on that list.

My wife signed up yesterday.  She would like to get out of teaching and into some sort of conservation role.  Ideally she would be perfect for naturalist/conservation educator.

Seems to be working. Anyone else having this problem?
    Welcome Section

I checked my profile and the required nickname was not filled in. Once I corrected that it showed up on the welcome.

    Thanks

Just pulled one off the dog this afternoon after caching at Silver Lake Park. Haven’t found any on us yet.

We have used several cars including:

    98 Mustang
    04 Escape Hybrid
    08 Dodge Dakota crew cab
    15 Focus

The last three on the list are still in use to day.

With three kids you may want to look for that third row seating. We have 2 young adults (19 and 21) and a 75 pound lab that we travel with. We have done a long trip in the Dakota, but it was cramped in the back seat.

The Escape is our main transport, but the dog usually has half of the rear cargo area to himself while the kids are in the back seat. They are a little crowded in there so as your kids get bigger that Escape may not be the best.

    Good luck

My wife wanted the GPS to get outdoors, but since I am the gadget person, I got caught up in the technology side. Guess who does all of the geocaching now, Me.

And unfortunately, Facebook doesn’t have a dislike button.

in reply to: Hard frost? #1972790

Right now, the first frost can’t come soon enough for me in Kenosha. I took the dog out this weekend to grab a cache at Prairie Springs park and he came out with two ticks while I had one. The problem was that these were the little pin head sized ones that carry all the diseases, not the bigger ones. These were the first of this kind that I have ever pulled off the dog. Luckily none of them were attached.

Time to get that travel bug tracking tattoo. 😉 Have fun.

Illinois is #2 for me also but I have found caches in more counties in Illinois than Wisconsin, 26 vs 7.

    Whoohoo! Yipee! uh-huh, uh-huh! w00t! Yeah, baby!

    Now, go get it!

You need to follow the entire directions for this puzzle. There are multiple steps involved and what you describe is only one step of the process.

When I grow up, I want to be as smart as CJ! 8)

    So would I!!!

    The three step projection

From the starting coordinates travel 123 meters at a bearing of 45 degrees. From there go another 456 meters at a bearing of 165 degrees. Then wander another 789 meters at 210 degrees. Congrats! You’re nowhere near the cache!

    But the direct route

The good news is that if you go 1451.79 meters at exactly 279.7 degrees you will have found your way right to it!

I started to do the three step and then I read that last line and stopped.

FizzyCalc hasn’t let me down yet, but it produces almost the same coordinates

    N 42 28.502, W 88 52.646

The geochecker says these are also wrong. I say go for it with the coordinates you have and then check with the owner or check the coordinates with the owner and then go for it.

in reply to: Maybe she was looking for a P&G? #1970795

A GPS isn’t the only thing that can give you bad information on where to go. Several years ago we were at the Grand Canyon and wanted to go to Supai Falls. The map we had showed a road that was almost a direct route. The road was a nice wide gravel raos when we started on it. It got narrower and the gravel turned into dirt then the dirt turned into two tire tracks then we were searching for tire tracks in the rocks. We finally made it to a blacktop road, but it had taken us almost twice as long as if we had taken the interstate and the extra miles. We decided to head back to the hotel, using the interstate this time, and chalk it up to an adventure.
