The pathtags have found a new home.
Just wanted to let everyone know the coins are sold.
Well, do we want to make this an event? Where should we meet? I know Astro Team D is from the Green Bay area, CJ is from Berlin and I’m in Oshkosh. Not sure if anybody else is interested.
We could go somewhere none of us has really had a chance to benchmark in before. Maybe figure out a route to take to recover as many as possible. That way each of us could report at least one mark for the national event, but we wouldn’t have to go our own separate ways. For location, I’ve not really been anywhere out of the Oshkosh, Appleton, Berlin, Fond du Lac area so I’m open to anything beyond that.
It looks like the only thing they aren’t including are intersection stations (church spires, water towers, etc…)
Scaredy Cat’s website is great, I use it all the time. CGS was integrated into the NGS some time ago I believe. I’ve never seen any WISDOT ones listed on there though.
I saw this posted over on GC. I’m planning on being a part of it too.
From what I understand, there really isn’t a gathering or anything like that. You just go out, find a benchmark, and submit the special form. Does that sound right?
Maybe we could get everybody interested together and do an event? I’m sure it would only be a handful of us, but it could be fun.You might also be interested in GC29ZJG. It is the center of population benchmark disk for Wisconsin.
That’s the same GPS that I use! It’s the only one I own actually. The only thing I’ve used it for other than a GPS is a very weak flashlight. Yeah. Didn’t work the best.
I’ve been in touch with the previous own a little bit and he did sell it to Garmin. Opencaching.us chose the dot country suffix to follow suit with the pre-existing Opencaching community. All of the other Opencaching sites are country based.
WIXX has been posting hints that will supposedly help people participating in the race: http://wixx.com/bergstrom-mini/
The only problem with that is the fact that there have been opencaching.xx sites in existence since at least 2006.
Garmin claims to have been in contact with the various OC.xx admins, but none of them have heard word one from Garmin. Very underhanded. Still don’t understand why they couldn’t create something new instead of trying to pirate an existing name.
You can always re-list it on opencaching.us *nudge, nudge* 😉

I suppose as an owner of a mini Cooper I should get in on this thingy…
My thoughts exactly. We’ve got a 2006 Cooper S Astro Black w/Silver roof. How about you?
I tried checking it out once, but was turned off by the sponsorship requirement as well as the “need to find so many so often to stay a member” clause. I just don’t cache that frequently and there really didn’t seem to be many in the area, so I just moved on.
I don’t think it would be too difficult. Probably easier with a drill press (more even pressure.) If you do decide to try it, I would probably clamp it to a board and use several size drill bits, starting with a nice small pilot hole and gradually enlarging it.
