Pretty cool that the FTF got interviewed. At they have very few finds under their belt. Now that’s the way to create an addict!
😯 you paid $70 for a flashlight??
I use a Coleman XR-C single bulb LED flashlight. Picked it up from Wally World for a little over $20. This thing is bright (75 lumens.) It uses a Cree X-lamp bulb which I guess is very long lasting. It’s not considered a tactical light, but has many features of one. Being over 60 lumens, it can temporarily blind a person. The lens end also has a raised bezel that could inflict damage in a defensive situation. And to think, I just bought it so I could see in the dark 🙂
Review from Buzzillions.com
Review from Amazon.comIf it was on the ground out in the open, wouldn’t have been winter unfriendly to being with?
I honestly haven’t gotten out of my area much to do any benchmarking, but your post on the forum here is what made me think of posting the pic 🙂 I’ll get there one of these days. Did that one get it’s PID for the NGS yet?
I know it still wouldn’t be an all inclusive list, but it couldn’t have been too difficult to integrate it in the first place. You would think it’d be as simple as using the latest, most up to date database the NGS has. I’m thinking a lot of people are too lazy or just don’t know about the other sites that list them. If they were right there next to the cache listings, more people might hunt them, in theory keeping them in better shape for longer.
PQs would be nice. I don’t even have that option for caches! My hardware is so old I just plug in each coord set individually.
I was just going to look for that 🙂
I was reading the feedback forum and it seems like there are a few other people that don’t have that attribute. One person even said it only showed up for some of their caches, not all.
my puzzle piece looks exactly like a steer/cow…

Edit the attributes of one of your caches, the Field Puzzle icon is under conditions.
?? I can’t seem to find it at all. Just the same ones as before.
Welcome to the addiction 🙂 I remember a few caches I’ve found sans GPS. It can definitely be more challenging. I still recommend getting a unit though. I bought mine used from a friend for $20 a year ago (it’s a 2000 Garmin eMap) and it’s still going strong.
On a side note, the Geocaching definition of ‘muggle’:
noun – a non-cacher, somebody not in the know
verb – to take or damage a cache containerSo when you say you muggled a couple of caches, some people might get the wrong impression. Just trying to keep that angry mob with the torches and pitch forks away from your door 🙂
Hope to see you out and about some time!
To me, the location would also play a key roll in allowing it as a find or not. Was the cache location difficult to get to? Did it involve a spectacular view at GZ? If the intent was to bring a cacher to a certain spot, then I would let the smiley stand. If it was a guard rail cache or something along those lines, I would say no smiley.
I’m pretty sure I did it correctly. Here is what I sumbitted:
The benchmark is located 21 feet South of center line of County Line Rd/E Lone Elm Rd, 30 feet West of Western most rail on Western most set of tracks, 3 feet Northwest of power pole number 1617 6E7, and 2.5 feet North of an orange plastic witness post.
I tried to follow the format of the original post that describes the location. On a side note, the triangle in the middle has a plus sign, not just a dot. What could that stand for? What sort of station does that make this?
Update: found an older benchmark. This one is a pipe cap.

Geocache pageThis benchmark was monumented in 1908, last recovered in 1989, not found in 2005.

Okay, so a year and a half after the previous post. But hey, I’m new the BM hobby and wanted to give my two cents 🙂
I’ve recently found two benchmark disks that were dated 1930. Both of them were in railroad bridge footings in Oshkosh.
