    Welcome.

in reply to: CONTEST: WHERE AND WHAT YOU WERE DOIN ON 9-11-01 #1953134

I was laying in bed with a fever, bleeding badly from my mouth, with a severe infection from having 2 wisdom teeth pulled the day before. I was half in a daze watching everything unfold that morning on television. It was like in was in a dream state and was imagining it all. It all seemed so unreal and unbelievable at the time. When I first saw and heard about the first plane hitting the first tower, I was thinking “what idiot accidentally did that?”, but then we watched as the next one came in and it was obvious that this was no accident. Thanks allowing us to share.

Thanks for the info. I just ordered one for work so I can’t be tracked on GPS in our cars. Nice idea 😆

What IF, you had to pay $5.00 to get the bag? Would you still want it OR would you take a plastic bag with all the paperwork in it and skip the color bags, which next year if the Chamber can get them would be teal.

How about a VIP bag for $15 that included the bag and the events geocoin? Or maybe a discount for $13 if you bought the “VIP” bag, as opposed to buying each item at full price separately. On a side note, we as a family love the bags.

BR Wilson, I completely agree. I looked like somebody hit me with a train usually when I am done caching. I have wanted the Chamber to ask local vendors to bring food carts OF THEIR OWN FOOD – like Subway or a pizza place, etc… I will try to get the committee to relook at the fact that these merchants could still get the benefit of the sale. I think from the merchant’s standpoint, competing against perhaps 3 or 4 other vendors for 1,600 customers may not be a financial gain for them and they are reluctant to commit to it. The numbers keep growing though and with the big 5 year celebration next year – maybe it will be enough people.

P.S. Anybody else think because we had a Lackey from groundspeak that Jeremy Irish will show up? I heard he sends one out before he actually attends and next year is 5 years…. 😯 crossing my fingers and toes!!!

it could be like A Taste Of West Bend thing. thats kind of what they had at the Regner park anniversary celebration. Maybe instead of the bar thing after why not have a band start after the prizes are drawn and sell beer there and donate the money from the beer sales to a good cause. or even sell brats, burgers, and dogs ourself and donate the money. if this is all not right to do then explain music on main every thurs night. i bet theres about or less then 2000 people there and they serve food and beer.people are not going to the chambers resturants. then the churches should not have there picnics because they sell food and people are not going into the chambers resturants. Maybe its to form a West Bend geocaching org and get rid of the chamber all together. i know that would be next to imposable to do. as you can tell the chamber just really upsets me with there favoritism. i have no beefs with the commitee cause i know they can only do what the chamber allows them to do. i also know that the chamber wont even care what is being said on here. sorry but i had to say my peice.

LOVE the idea of having food, beer, music and the “POST BASH” right at the park!! Thats a terrific idea! (yeah, thats all I have to offer on this, just sayin…)

2 a.m.’ing finds for a FTF is it still a game if no one plays?

lol, the local deer population says its still a sport even if only one participant knows its playing. 😀

in reply to: Stamp books like ’em or hate ’em? #1951812

I agree that there were some “wast of time staying here” prizes (i.e. infinite gun locks), but the geocoins, cache kins, GPSr’s and actual caching related items were great give aways in my opinion. The nonsense items should be paired up with caching items to keep the giveaway shorter and keep everyones interest, IMHO. Besides our gas and food bills, we didnt spend any money, so I think for free we shouldnt really complain too much. Besides, you all would be caching all day anyway if it was just a normal weekend, and theres no raffle at the end of those days. So its a bonus anyways. (Maybe next year they can give away the guns to go with those gun locks!) 😀

We never even took the book with us, only the stamp card. never even looked at the book, all the info is in the GPS that you need, even if you only have coords, get close follow the trail, repeat at the next cache, no book needed.

If it is made part of the book, please make it removeable so that I only have to carry it.

Ditto on the entire post. Took the words out of my mouth.

What was Saturday night’s dinner announcement?

I thought the announcement should’ve been ” sorry for the crappy service here at Players, food is on the house, be sure to tip your waitress….IF you ever see her” 😆

Maybe for the group photo, some local business can donate the use of a scissor lift to get the photographers more elevated and shoot down on us, that way everyone can be seen in the photo. The donating business can get some free advertising out of it too.

Not to make this a chirp bash thread hijack, being a committed Garmin user myself, but I too was not impressed with it at the CB. I was with a fellow Garmin user and we had our 550s searching for the chirp and only one unit could successfully download the info, while the other would fail at about 20% completion. The nice thing was is that the Oregons can send and receive info to one another wirelessly, so after my buddy got the chirp info, he sent it to my unit and that worked perfectly.

BIG Kudos to the color maps of the cache locations given out at the event though. That was a very helpful simple item.

I can answer that question in 3 words: PERMANENT WATERTIGHT CONTAINERS. .

Amen to that. I’m not gonna point out any one hider because I do appreciate their efforts, but some of the containers were just ridiculous as far as weather proofing goes. I thought these were gonna be permanent hides. If so, they never even made it past this weekend. Not good. Rite in rain paper and log books are worth their weight in gold as well. I’m glad I had a pen that can write on wet paper.
