That baggie idea is a good one, never thought of it, but we got caught in the monsoon in the ice age trail and had all the rain gear and baggies safe and dry in the geo mobile. ( great spot for them).
I do like the punch idea too. But unless we laminate the card we are punching, it will still succumb to the elements. I will open a laminating station and charge per sheet. 😀
This was our first Mega and enjoyed it. The stamping was fun until the monsoon hit. Then it just became a sloppy mess. I don’t have a better idea, besides codewords, but then anyone could tell people the codewords to fill their sheets. But then again, most playing the game are honest anyway and wouldn’t need to cheat just for an extra raffle ticket or 2. Our people are not armchair loggers, so I don’t think using codewords would be a problem.
Hey, we thought the odds were bad for the drawing too…until our ticket was called for the $100. 😆

This was our second West Bend Cache ba$h event, and it nudged out last year to rate as the Greatest Ever! Many Thanks to all those that made it happen!
Especially liked the electrically-charged, tropical storm-themed special effects! 😎 😎
We had a great time caching with you guys through the monsoon inside the Ice Age Trails. That will be one to talk about for years to come. This was our first Mega and we all had a blast.
Not to mention winning $100 in the cash drawing on Saturday really made it memorable. 😆
nice work guys, the bookmark list and the pocket query of the event caches worked great. Thanks for making it easy on us. See ya there.
Is there a way to search or filter for just the event caches on gc.com so we can be sure we are getting event caches only? Or even a list of them somewhere so we can be sure we are downloading them all.
I just downloaded the new c geo. Same great app, new people have taken it over and it seems like they are really going to run it well and improve on it even more. Glad to see someone took it over.

Dang it I just hide two new caches in the middle of the Kettle Moraine State Forest. Still waiting for them to be published. My question is how accurate are the smart phones? Do they get good reception under semi heavy tree cover?
DawnWhen I hide a cache I never use my phone, i only use my Oregon and I let it average a waypoint after its been sitting for a few minutes. When hiding, i want the most accurate coordinates I can provide. But when caching, I dont mind being off a little, just gotta use the eyeballs and the caching instincts then. Phones seem to be pretty good in most environments in my opinion, but they are more delicate. Dont wanna drop it, bang it, get it wet etc…I do think that dedicated GPSr’s using the WAAS enabled correction really makes them superior to smartphones, but smartphones are unbelievable for on the fly caching, and road navigation at the click of a button. I like to have both in my arsenal.
We were going to try out our Ipod touch just to see how it works for caching. We normally use our Garmin Oregon or my Android phone. My phone has the ability to turn itself into a wi-fi hotspot, so our iTouch can tether to it for connection to the internet as long as its 150 feet or closer to the phone. My question is, to use the iTouch for caching, and using say the Groundspeak app, do you have to be connected to wi-fi to be able to use it for hunting caches? Or can you just use it on wi-fi to connect to the app, download or save caches and then go after them even if offline? I wondered how an iTouch would be for naivgating to a cache in a compass mode if it didnt have a wi-fi connection. Does this make sense or am I rambling? thanks. 🙂
Interesting points TE. I tend to lean towards the side that says Premium members, or anyone that has more invested into the hobby than just an iphone, will respect your caches a bit more, or at least understand the etiquette a bit more. I recently placed a night cache that involved a bit of time and financial investment on my part thats more than just a 35mm film canister and I made it a Premium Member only cache. I like to reward the more serious cachers in our area with quality caches that I know (well not totally know) won’t get ransacked or destroyed or improperly put back by new cachers just getting their legs. On that same note though, I have some fun and invested ones for everyone as well. Like BlackCat said, if all the good ones were Premium only, then they may never see what a good cache looks like. So its nice to spread it around a little bit, and hopefully hook them as a new Premium member.
we will be bringing our tags as well. Cant miss an opportunity to increase the collection. 😀
We have 4 of these boards from Bill in the natural cedar finish and they are great. He really does do great work. (no I wasn’t paid or compensated for this endorsement)
Whoo hooo, how cool is that? Just got the email today telling me we won. Very neat promotion and fun idea. 😀
Candy bar in gas tank…hmmm…would that be a D5/T5? 😆
That IS a bummer. I have both the paid Groundspeak app and the C:Geo on my android phone and i really prefer C:Geo, even though Groundspeaks new upgrades has made it a little better and alot “prettier”. The Garmin is still great for rough caches, or on planned runs, but the smartphone stuff has been great to post logs on the fly and check live updates whereever you are. RIP c:geo, you served us well. I hope that Groundspeak will give their $10 app some extra attention and keep those of us that spend the $40 a year (30 for premium, 10 for the app) happy and as satisfied as some guy did with his FREE app.
