It looks like you found some folks to go with you and they are quite capable searchers!
Holy cow…342 points and counting…plus the “BICH” nemesis caches… 😯 😯 😯 😯 😯 😯 😯 😯 😯 8)
On the Left Side of the Road...Why are there now 3 COTM winners for May? Was there actually a 3-way tie?
On the Left Side of the Road...8) x 2500
On the Left Side of the Road...Well ok, so our pair of Lowrances lost us in the woods for what I vowed to be the last time recently. Doing more reading on this topic elsewhere, lost of people report the problem of signal degredation and difficulty achieving lock as the units get older, so this may be a fault.
Anyway, we are now in possession of an Oregon 400t. The signal strength and speed of lock-on is amazing. Under 30 seconds to lock right out of the box–I don’t know if that’s typical for Garmin owners but for “not knowing where it was last” it was incredible. From thereon, it was locked within seconds after turning it on each time. Even faster than our pair of Forerunners we use for running.
In the woods, it was no problem. We had the Lowrances along as well and they would drift and wander but the Oregon was spot on.
This morning as a test I went to the most central part of our home on the first floor (of 2 stories), turned it on and I had a signal lock in 30 seconds.
So based on this limited experience, I’m a believer.
Now, about the user interface of the Oregon…that will take some getting used to. Some very, very good things, but some things that it appears not to have that I would like it to have. Maybe I’m just missing them for now. But the “lost in the woods” problem is hopefully solved.
Or at least if (when?) we’re lost, we can’t blame it on the GPSr anymore.

As for the lamppost one, it has to be one of the two worst COTM winners we have done.
I’ll bite…what was the other?
On the Left Side of the Road...8) x 900!
On the Left Side of the Road...This is all good info. Basically our daughter, who rarely finds any swag in a cache that interests a 10-year-old, really likes the pathtag and wanted to tether it to her hiking stick or backpack or something. But, she doesn’t want to be a coin thief.
So it sounds like these can be considered as regular trade items, or even as “take” items, but the best protocol for actually collecting them is to have a batch of personal ones made so that even swaps can be made.
Looks like I may need to help design (and fund) a pathtag production.
On the Left Side of the Road...BUMP!
We came across our first pathtag recently. Assuming it was a regular trackable, we picked it up to move it.
Then reading more about it on the pathtag site, and picking up on this thread…my question is what is the protocol for pathtags?
If you pick one up you are supposed to log it.
Then you can either decide to release it back to the wild…or not.
But if “not,” what is the protocol, since we do not have a pathtag of our own to trade?
Know what I mean?
On the Left Side of the Road...We have a new logo? When did this happen?
On the Left Side of the Road...( 8) x 10,000 ) x 2
On the Left Side of the Road...pharmgirl, your comments are spot on. The problem with these forums as a delivery vehicle is that new people don’t know they exist. And for that matter many experienced people don’t read them.
As an incubator of ideas…yes. But we need to push that information out to the public.
That is what we have our BOD for…and what events would be a great venue for, as you also mention.
T&B, I’d be curious to see what your bringing this to the board will accomplish. Several months ago, I volunteered my services on some education/outreach committee or another. It’s been so long I can’t remember what specifically it was, but with my background in copywriting I felt I could contribute to some extent, whether in writing or material production. Still haven’t heard back.
On the Left Side of the Road...Holy ****!!!! I wouldn’t come in with a Cessna that low. But you’re right, those big boys need all the runway. There are a bunch of videos of similar landings here.
I wonder if the airport were on the French side of the island if it would be any different.
On the Left Side of the Road...Looks like someone is “hungry” for a letterbox! 8)

I think it’s just easier to wait for the guided tour!……….
Does that mean you’re now giving tours on your own caches?
And even the unfound ones?
I think not 😉
On the Left Side of the Road...From the “things that make you go HMMMMMMMM” category, here’s a “Found It” log on one of our caches today:
