Basically, I’m afraid much of what we see is a reflection of society in general, which seems to say……”Get out of my way, it’s mine!”The second part of your observation is your answer. Geocaching attracts a cross section of people just like anything else does. There are givers and there are takers.
This is why I said I didn’t think this topic had a lot of value. People who are on the taking end aren’t likely to take a good look in the mirror and recognize themselves, let alone change their behavior.
At best, this becomes a sounding board for frustrated cache owners. Which is not in and of itself a bad thing, although I’ve already gotten slammed once for starting a “gripe” thread.

The main reason for this topic is to see who Watches caches.
As Ronald Regan would have said…”There you go again!”
Well, to answer the ostensible question, we have what appears to be about 100 caches on our watch list, the overwhelming majority of which are caches we have found or have DNFed and are interested in seeing what others have to say.
There is only one puzzle on our watch list that we have not solved/found, and I only put that one on there after you had mentioned to me a while back that you had been tossing out breadcrumbs on it. 🙄 I think it’s just easier to wait for the guided tour!
On the Left Side of the Road...8) x 1200!
On the Left Side of the Road...All right, I’ll bite on this one…you knew I would anyway.
I do not like the “trickle” approach to adding progessively more and more information (including bonus notes to the watchers) to a cache page to help you solve it.
My philosophy is that if the information is needed to solve the puzzle, it should be there in the first place. With that said, I’m sure we have added or refined cache info and hints over time when we realize there are problems with the cache/puzzle or its interpretation. However, to design a puzzle that requires a drip, drip, drip of notes over time seems to have no purpose other than to toy with people.
That’s just my opinion, perhaps others don’t mind it.
On the Left Side of the Road...OPS, I couldn’t have said it any better. It’s a great perspective on balance.

My belief is that the puzzle is the Difficulty part of the cache.
On the Left Side of the Road...By the way, this worked perfectly. Thanks a bunch!!!
In case you’re curious, this was to load a list of garage sales in for Mrs. Gotta Run into the GPSr. The only thing I had to be careful of was to use a different waypoint symbol when uploading to the unit (from GSAK) so that they don’t get confused with regular caches!
Then again…hmmm…they have coordinates…they show in the GPSr (as 1/1 “unknowns”)–maybe I should log them as temps 😈 !

My belief is that the puzzle is the Difficulty part of the cache. Finding the container should not be difficult, UNLESS the cache page also addresses that specifically!
Oh man, did you serve that up just for me? How nice of you 😈
So, just to pose a hypothetical here. What if I want to place a bison tube, hidden in dense foliage, on an island, with coordinates that put you in the middle of the water so you have to scour a large radius without knowing if you’re in the right spot or not. Would you consider that “not difficult?”
Ace….

I do think it is a bit ironic that we have this thread where it appears that some people think that finding a lot of caches is weird, while at the same time we have several threads congratulating folks on their 1200th find, or whatever milestone they happened to hit recently.
I didn’t get the impression of “weird” anywhere in this thread. It seems reasonable to say “I don’t know how you can accomplish that” or “I don’t think I can do that” or even “I don’t want to do that” yet still recognize people who do accomplish that.
On the Left Side of the Road...What, there’s a new logo? When did this happen?
On the Left Side of the Road...“gotta run”
Well, technically it’s a licence plate holder 8)
On the Left Side of the Road...Well then there must have been three yesterday, because the ones I were thinking of were put out by Lander & Lancelot and jhaas!

Agreed…now there is a real milestone!
[Oh BTW, coming up on 20 for Mr. and Mrs. gotta run this year! 8) ]
On the Left Side of the Road...Two more yesterday 😀
On the Left Side of the Road...What I’ve often wondered is how you can rack up massive numbers yet have time in your life for anything else. Well that isn’t real eloquently stated but I think you get the idea.
It took us three years to get somewhere around 1,200 caches and I think we cache a lot. I know our kids think we cache too much. So how do you run up 2, 3, 4, or more times that? It seems you must have to cache every weekend, and ideally both days, as well as several days during the week. I would guess you plan vacations around dense cache areas.
So how do you do this and attend little league games, hold down a job, tend to family obligations, or do anything non-geocaching related?
This is not a criticism, it is just something I have wondered about for some time.
