Here’s some boilerplate that we use on some of our cemetery caches:
Cemeteries are not parks. Please be respectful. Any inappropriate logs will be deleted. Please hunt cemetery caches only during daylight hours and respect visitors who are there. The cache is not by any grave although the cache may use information on a headstone for reference.
On the Left Side of the Road...Lots of good logs on our caches, which we appreciate. Not any ugly ones thankfully. Here are a few of the bad or amusing.
From our favorite team, on any one of our caches they have found: “Easy cache for our team to find. Took [fill in the blank], left soap/candles/junk.” Yes, it’s lots of fun for me to clean crap out of our caches…
Cue the violins: “The ‘designated walking trail’ is very over grown, not user friendly. We turned around after the horse flys started following us by the dozen.” Sorry no one paved the forest for ya. Ever hear of bug spray? It’s NATURE, people!
The clue was actually more helpful than the coordinates. I found the cache about 4 or 5 feet to the south. “4 or 5 feet”???!!!! Well, at least they didn’t post a “needs maintenance.”
My personal favorite:
One finder’s log: “We are city slickers! We are not accustomed to walking this far!” The next finder’s log: “Took a little work but managed fine. Pleasent day for a walk. Left the TB there, might soak up the tears of those who can’t walk 200 yrds.”On the Left Side of the Road...8) x 2
On the Left Side of the Road...8) ❗

Well, after a lot of negative feedback and complaints on what I considered a very reasonable request, I decided to prove I was willing to change.
So I start doing things the way ‘they’ are doing things, and what do I get? More complaints!?? 🙄
Now I see these are changed to include unique identifiers…whazzup with that?
‘Though you know, you really should put the unique letter before the name. 😈
On the Left Side of the Road...Bumping due to this happy TB resurrection:

😀
On the Left Side of the Road...We establish “winter caching rules” that allow “touch and go” for our caches that are iced in.
Why? Because I got tired of replacing containers that got broken when people got out pickaxes just to excavate the slip of paper to sign. 😡 And frankly even if its a gorgeous day, if there are tons of people around I’d be thrilled if you made a “visual find” rather than expose the cache to the general populace.
There are always extenuating circumstances. I think holding fast to the “you must sign the paper” under all circumstances is unrealistic and needless.
Guess that makes me a scofflaw!

Nope, these are in Rochester MN.
If this is the one I’m thinking of, I solved it in less than 5 minutes using ExpertGPS while humming “I walk the line.”
Actually, you only need to “biangulate” because of the GC proximity-to-dummy-coordinate rule, but triangulation makes you extra sure.
We have a puzzle cache like this, that can be solved exactly the same way. Right Marc? Here’s how:

Zoom way in on the intersection area and drop a waypoint. The accuracy will be within a reasonably small search distance.

You ever update the Unit software(firmware) on your H2OC?
No, because the software on the unit is NEWER than the software update! 😯 . The unit shows version 1.2.0, whereas the site shows a 1.1.0 download.
I did check to make sure the “ext passive antenna” was unchecked.
I just think these things are dodgy when it comes to tree cover. Which is why we use two, which probably doesn’t make a lot of sense, plus it doubles our battery costs (lithum AAs aren’t cheap as you all know).
The problem with the Endura is they are not available yet, so I don’t know if they do any better reception-wise. They do have the touchscreen for the cool factor.
However, Garmin seems to do a better job with geocaching-specific applications.

Hmmm, I just looked at that program and am asking myself…how much more money do I really want to throw at this hobby?
I guess there’s always the option of just skipping those caches. They appealed the the structural engineer’s grand-daughter, but I don’t think I got enough of those brain cells myself!
It’s paid for itself! Well, not really but it sure comes in handy. I’ve used it to solve triangulation puzzles in the field just having the laptop along. It makes quick work of it, either by projection based on bearing and distance or by projecting proximity circles to see where multipe circles intersect.
It also comes in handy for things like checking on proximity to existing waypoints, not that I can think of a reason why you might need to do that. 😈
The biggest drawbacks are cost and the fact that the sat maps seem to be getting old. But we use it at least weekly.

Currently we use Lowrances
What model? I owned a h2o for a few day and it was pretty good in the woods, though sometimes it would loose signal. If I compared it to my 60Cx sitting in my house, there was no comparison. The 60cx NEVER would loose lock where the H2o would every few hours go though 20-30 minute fits of loosing lock constantly(the reason i returned it).
I realized this was an older model when I tried it so I’m sure the newer Lowrance models are using much better gps chipsets. I really liked the Lowrance and would definitely consider another one.
You might want to check out the new handheld models Lowrance has coming out, The Endura Series.
Endura Out & Back: http://www.lowrance.com/en/Products/Outdoors/Endura-Out-Back/
Endura Safari: http://www.lowrance.com/en/Products/Outdoors/Endura-Safari/
Endura Sierra: http://www.lowrance.com/en/Products/Outdoors/Endura-Sierra/
We use a pair if Ifinder H20Cs, which I really like for the user interface.
What I’m hearing is that the Garmin 60s are really good signal-wise.
However, those Oregons do have that jazzy touch screen interface…

Maybe!
As you can tell though I am probably trying to be “talked into” the 500t. It has the “cool” form factor going for it.

On the Left Side of the Road...I use ExpertGPS for this. If you have ExpertGPS but don’t know how to do it, let me know. If you don’t have it, I’m not sure how I would get it done.
