I don’t want to hijack this thread, but I have an observation of my own. I have noticed that this is not just a one way street. I have seen a number of caches with multiple DNFs logged. Some with up to a half dozen dating back a number of months.
You are right that owner maintenance is the other side of the problem, and unfortunately one not likely to ever be solved. It is of course true that things happen, and people move, get sick, or worse.
But there are those cases where people just seem to abdicate their maintenance responsibility. There’s no excuse for that, particularly if you are still actively finding caches and/or putting out new caches.
On the Left Side of the Road...Well, mom-in-law “found” her third geocache today looking for the medallion. Yes she left them there. But anyone out there “losing” caches?
No, I do not know where the medallion is. I love da Packers but I couldn’t care less about this challenge…
On the Left Side of the Road...Ditto!
On the Left Side of the Road...Everyone has the right to comment in discussion…and this is the off topic forum.
And in the interest of full disclosure, I am a right-wing wignut. I think Rush is too liberal and Ayn Rand too much of a Socialist. I agree with Astro-D’s comments.
But…no good can come of this discussion. We all agree that geocaching is great. And we have enough disagreements about the fine points of the game without introducing politics, religion, or sex. Well, sex would be ok.
I’m just sayin’, is all….

Yes you can play the game you want to play it but when you log a found it when no cache is there just because you’re frustrated, it tells the owner all is ok when it’s not.
Unfortunately some players just think it’s fun4 them to do stuff like that, and the game suffers as a consequence.
On the Left Side of the Road...We get a report back about 50/50. And my old college roommate is at the DNR office…
My understanding is these forms are required notifications but once you file them you are good to go. If we’d wait to get them back we still wouldn’t have some caches published. I’m sure a reviewer can chime in on this.
On the Left Side of the Road...And on the 9th day they said, “Heck no! You can’t put a geocache in a wayside!!! A guard rail on a busy street is much better and safer.”
On the Left Side of the Road...Holy cow! That has to have been from one of those big felling machines, whatever the technical term for them is. I don’t think a saw would have made it that far through the can.

I can only hope conditions will be favorable for us to try and find the cache tomorrow.
I think a group with agile kids could actually provide plausible “stealth cover” for that one! All I know is I am NOT going to get it for you.
On the Left Side of the Road...Uhhhhhhhhh…I gotta go….
On the Left Side of the Road...Why are those black helicopters over my house?
On the Left Side of the Road...I noted that too! Though he tells me he was misquoted…which I don’t doubt!
On a brighter note, I don’t think the Department of Homeland Security (yet) incorporated “people placing camoed tupperware in the woods” on their list of domestic terrorists and other “extremists.” So being an Extreme Geocacher is still okey-dokey! Hoo-ray!
On the Left Side of the Road...I won’t clutter up the thread with a long quote, but THAT is the funniest thing I have read on these boards since I don’t know when!
“Easy cache for our team to find”… 🙄

On the Left Side of the Road...04/17/2009 at 3:04 am in reply to: Public Service announcement….it’s okay if you DON’T find i #1906084Sorry, I should really use the winky face when I am being facetious…one of my frustrations is when there is an actual problem with a cache of ours and I don’t hear about it for weeks (months) because rather than logging them right away, people lurk about and wait for someone else to jump in the pool first. We check out DNFs on non-evil hides as soon as practical, so the sooner they are logged the faster problems get fixed.
On the Left Side of the Road...04/17/2009 at 12:02 am in reply to: Public Service announcement….it’s okay if you DON’T find i #1906081I like to wait to log our DNFs until after I see a bunch of other people DNF it first. Then I log a “me too” DNF…or maybe just a note…with some snide comments to the cache owner for not checking on their cache sooner. 😡
