That many puzzles placed individualy look pretty daunting as well.
I think all the puzzles spread in the water makes sense. For one thing, it frees up the street part of the map when you’re looking at it (which can also be done by unchecking the ? box). Second, seeing the true density could be helpful.

I have not used the logo on my first few placements, basically because I did not know where it was hidden. Yes hidden, I didnt think searching for 10 minutes to find it was acceptable.
Agreed. Yes you can find it but it ain’t easy. If I recall the way we put it on the one or two pages we do have it on is by swiping it from the HTML of another cache page that had it!

Adding the logo was the easy part because all the coding is right there (on the Wiki page) to copy and paste.
Ok….I give up. Where? The wiki link takes me to a list of links–basically a site tree. The most likely candidate is “Hiding a Cache” but it’s not there.
On the Left Side of the Road...Well, the month isn’t over yet.
Besides, our motives are completely altruistic. We are simply leaving footprints to follow for the next finders.
All right, seriously now. As I said previously, we set off to solve a bunch of puzzles (ya know, I just hate having those ?s on the screen ) after Packer games got somewhat less than interesting.
After solving all of Marc’s puzzles, we looked for something more challenging . And, it just so happens that a lot of brain-benders are lonely. Well, the snowball started rolling down the hill, the gravitational pull of 1,000 started to be felt, yadda yadda yadda….

There’s always next month…
On the Left Side of the Road...Ahhh…yes…one member of the team learned it at a Girl Scout lockin. Alas, I am old and uncoordinated. It’s all I can do to run in a straight line.
On the Left Side of the Road...Actually, as in King Lear, the jester is often the wisest person in the court. So methinks perhaps you mean a different character. Like the stable hand in charge of piling manure.
On the Left Side of the Road...There is also a cache UNDER the ice on Winnebago, which is retreivable with a little effort.
On the Left Side of the Road...I know but not many…any???…do
On the Left Side of the Road...Ya but what about all the Christmas This and Christmas That caches?

Did anybody remember bug spray????
Yes, we found a tube in the van this morning, along with some sun screen. Both FROZEN SOLID!

Yes but how many fingers are you holding up?
On the Left Side of the Road...We haven’t voted on this yet because we’re trying to figure out if an event is the best venue for this type of thing, or if the forums are.
My thinking is that a lot of what goes into puzzle-making doesn’t lend itself real well to an event unless everyone is armed with laptops and wifi. Not that it’s not a great idea, I’m just wondering if the type of topics that would likely be covered lend themselves better to “read about it then try it.” ???

Now this thread can be returned to whatever it was doing before I interrupted..
It wasn’t doing anything important. Your idea is great!

A few weeks prior to all this business about solving puzzles or not and tours I was thinking it would be fun to put on an event to teach others how to place new puzzle caches (rather than solving/finding them).
I think this is an excellent idea. I also think it could be handled via a number of different threads on the Puzzle forum itself, similar to Marc’s big cipher thread. Basically, how to do this, how to do that, and so on.
The merits of geochecker vs. evince; photos in the gallery versus offsite–those are both good ones.

So not only is the joke a pain in the butt for the people who where supposedly holding it, but it is also for us who would have been interested in attending.
This is why I eventually got, to quote Marc, “stirred up” about this. There are lots of people who are not following the ins and outs of this discussion, and it was not the appropriate venue to make a point.
Also, I–or, perhaps more appropriately, Team gotta run–weren’t real thrilled at being annointed “masters,” as in “learn from the masters.” ??? We enjoy solving puzzles and making them, but so do lots of other people, and there’s nothing special about us. If someone out there feels that way, that’s his/her problem but I won’t stand for any sort of title.
Yes, I have strong opinions on the whole puzzle tour idea. I think puzzle tours diminish the finds of those who have solved puzzles and are a slap in the face to those who have taken the time to put together creative puzzles–and the time to create them is often much more than the time to solve them. I should be allowed to express this opinion, as should others on the opposite side of the spectrum, without being subjected to jokes that appear to carry the official endorsement of the WGA.
That’s just my point, but I suppose I should “lighten up.”
