I won’t say we’ve *never* cheated a paddle cache, we have done a couple on the ice.
Hey, I resemble that remark! 😀
Now why is icing a paddle cache cheating? Instead of a paddle, you bring a shovel. Instead of a canoe, snow shoes. It’s still “special equipment” and it’s still a lot of work!
On the Left Side of the Road...Ya, but I quit my job….
On the Left Side of the Road...Well, I ask you an either/or question, and you respond “yes.” I used to have a boss like you!

When you come across a puzzle that stumps you, there are two ways of getting help with it:
1. Contact the owner.
2. Contact other cachers who have solved / found it.
I feel both ways are acceptable. I use both ways myself.
And I know others do not always contact me for help on my puzzles.
BTW, one thing that is generally not done nor does it seem acceptable, is to post a request to a forum, such as this. I’m not sure why that is, but I’ve seen examples elsewhere where the requester is deluged with criticism for doing so.
Does the “Join a puzzle cache tour” fall under 2, or is that a separate 3?
On the Left Side of the Road...Expert GPS is all I need. Upload whatever list of waypoints you want (or enter your own) and overlay them with either aerial or topo maps.
Powerful features including distance calculation from one point to another and some helpful tools such as drawing proximity circles which might be useful in solving some puzzles…not that I know of any…

The rules for last year were the same for everybody, and some people simply outperformed. Rather than being a problem that needs to be addressed, I view that as a model that the rest of us should consider as a road to success.
Hear hear.
On the Left Side of the Road...It is a game, but it has declared winners–including prizes–which means you have a bunch of losers (ok, how about “non-winners”) each month.
So of course the level of competition is going to go up. And people are going to position, and scheme, and plan, and take advantage of every rule in order to win. That’s how you play a game that has a winner.
And that is why we do not play it! We’re just not interested in competing.
Take away the winner, and you would take away all the problem, but then the game would no longer get the partcipation it does.
So from my outsider view, the complicated rules make it interesting for the players. Having a winner and prizes keeps the interest level up. And therefore those that choose to play shouldn’t gripe when they get outmaneuvered by other players. Suck it up!!!
On the Left Side of the Road...But denizens like plebiscites. 🙁
On the Left Side of the Road...Two questions.
Question the first: I’ve seen instances of caches that were archived by the owners after some DNFs or whatnot because they basically assumed the cache was MIA but didn’t go check, but the cache or parts of it are actually still there (and sometimes subsequently found). There doesn’t seem to be a way around this (other than owner responsibility)–i.e., to move them to the cache rescue list automatically, which would be an administrative headache given how many caches are archived over time. Is there a solution? (Or, is this not a problem?)
Question the second: What is the procedure for moving reviewer-archived caches to the Cache Rescue list?
On the Left Side of the Road...Heading out the day after Thanksgiving to cut our Christmas tree is a family tradition. Now, we use a GPSr to mark ones in the field! How cool is that.
The tree always goes up on St. Nicholas Eve in honor of a tradition that dates back to my childhood and German ancestry. And of course…CANDY!
On the Left Side of the Road...Every puzzle is of course different so it’s hard to give reply that encompasses everything.
Also, if you do a little googling on geocaching puzzles you’ll find a few examples. That will get you familiar with some of the more “traditional” code type puzzles and ciphers.
Marc_54140 occasionally puts on some puzzle cache events.
On our puzzles, we will give help to anyone who puts in a good effort. Just tell us where you’re stuck!
On the Left Side of the Road...Thanks Zuma. Your response was actually helpful. My question really should have been phrased as a 2-parter; one being the “how” and then a general question beyond this particular set of places outlined in this cache dealing with both the where and the how.

And, yes, there are a lot of great spots on that list calling out for ECs, for those who want to place an EC and think all the great spots have already been taken. Lots of unique, special places still in this state crying out for an EC.
zumaAny chance you could translate those cries for the non-geologically-minded? We like working on these but have a hard time walking by what looks like an average rock and thining “that should be an EarthCache!”
Ok, that’s a little bit of an oversimplification, but you get the idea. Googling “Cool places in Wisconsin to put an EarthCache that don’t currently have one but really need one” doesn’t get me very far.
On the Left Side of the Road...Ah, did I say “gripe?” I meant “mentioned.” That’s my story and I’m sticking to it. 😆
On the Left Side of the Road...First of all, I don’t agree with Marc on this at all–people do rescue these things, it just depends on the area. The bulk of the caches still on the list are from the past few months. Only the farthest-flung ones are old. You’ll note the ones in the Fox Valley don’t last long. The Green Bay one just recently showed up and I’m sure it will be visited soon. (Actually I submitted that one but have not gotten there yet.)
Second, I agree with Cachelovskys regarding the problems with the visibility of this effort. It wasn’t until we were in the game for quite some time that we stumbled across this feature. It is incumbent on people to frequent the WGA pages and know something about this link.
I realize the weekly notification email comes from groundspeak, but some sort of a “push” mechanism like that is really needed on this effort.
