Thanks for the responses so far. Looking at the D/T ratings, and the 3′ tall solid underbrush in some of the pictures, this one may make more sense for a me-and-the-missus trip. This definitely doesn’t look like a “trail” park find. Heck, I think we’d lose the kids in some of that.

Plus, if son goes through any more nettle, he swears he will never go caching again. Well, you gotta look for it, I tell him…

Bump, rather than a new thread…

Anyway, planning the annual trek to MN State Fair to eat things on a stick and did a caches along a route PQ, when I see this big grid of density-optimized caches come up.

Not knowing the terrain, not being familiar with the area, not likely to be able to attempt more than a handful, and probably not dressed for serious bushwhacking, any recommendations are appreciated.

I could claim Peach’s bonus, but did not, because I do not want a lot of multi logs showing on my stats. Getting picky lately ….

Becoming a gc purist? Does this mean you will be signing all logs and, if so, what will become of the fabled Marc Method??? 8)

Well that’s really just a difference of degree, ain’t it? I suppose Peach can’t enforce the requirement for his cache, technically speaking, since it is a traditional.

This one beat it by several months:

Member since ’07? No cache activity–is that b/c he/she/it is a banned member now, or b/c this was probably set up as a phantom account?

Same thing in this area, archived notes posted on stuff w/o reading what has already been posted. Can cache owners just delete these logs?

We have not run up against that yet. What would the purpose of that possibly be?

My intent is not to disparage here, I’m more amazed at how someone can place 1800 caches. It’s gotta be a full time job. We have a hard time keeping up with just 90.

On the flip side of this discussion, what about veteran cachers who have hidden hundreds of caches? How do they/you keep up with them all?

That same one has been on my radar as it’s (relatively) nearby. Doesn’t seem to be any interest at all in checking on it. Undoubtedly bad or mis-entered coordinates. 😡

You need to post your photo on the Internet, first.

I use the WGA photo album for mine.

You should also be able to upload the picture to the cache gallery itself, then use the image name/address assigned by geocaching in the upload process in your img src link in the cache description. It’s a bit backwards process; first you have to submit the cache (inactive), then upload to the gallery, then right click on the gallery image to find the name, then go back and change the description, then activate the cache. Unless I’m missing the easy way to do it. The advantage is you have all your stuff in one place; the disadvantage is that I believe gc modifies the image size on upload.

Otherwise, one of the various free sites out there like photobucket are good choices and provide some basic editing capabilities.

We never log a DNF. We just wait until there are a bunch of other DNFs on the cache and then we write a snotty “post note” that says we were out there a few months ago and couldn’t find it either and the cache owners are idiots.

Oh wait, that’s what happens on our caches…

We enjoy “backwards caching”! That’s what I call placing a new cache. The “Jim” part of the team is a bit more active than the “Linda” part, but the places we have seen, and the unique placements of the caches, is the best part of the hunt!

Great point! We have become so much more observant as we travel, even in familiar areas, always on the lookout for interesting spots.

The Zire 72 does all we ever need it to do and it can be had for about $60 on eBay. It is color, runs Cachemate splendidly, is quick enough, has a camera for when you forget you need to take a picture (or for uploading pictures to for in-field puzzle solves), and it uses a USB connection (unlike older palms that use a serial docking cradle and are VERY slow).

You can add a wireless networking card to it for about $50 and you’re set to go with the geocaching WAP site if you find a hotspot.

All in all, a low-cost, effective solution for us.

But come on! How many of us expect to be fawned over by our employers? It seems to be an unfortunate result of pro athletes being told how great they are on an ongoing basis…

Anyway, it’s water under the proverbial bridge.
