  • Yep, the ones in scout uniforms. 😀

Thanks to your help we are currently in first place. Yes, I know the pictures with the little babies are cute but they won’t enjoy the game like my son will… 8)

    Thanks TB!

Over the course of a month, we in the WGA rustled up tens of THOUSANDS of votes for Rick Blick when he campaigned for fan hall of fame. All I need is a mere 10 votes per day through next Friday to have a chance…vote now!

Another shameless plug…I know it’s a pain to sign up to vote but you can vote once per day through the 13th… vote for us! 8)

in reply to: Facebook groups versus the WGA website? #1974558

There are two parts of the answer to this IMO.

First, the Facebook experience is integrated. Everything comes into one place. Like most people here I belong to numerous groups, each of which has its own forums. However I simply don’t have the time to go out and check them all daily. Facebook consolidates everything from those groups’ pages into one feed.

The social aspect also is part of it–why is the thread stealer link the most popular page here despite having no inherent geocaching value?

Second, the decline of the forum is related to the decline of the WGA which is related to the decline of geocaching. I am talking about the decline of geocaching not in pure numbers, because numbers of caches and cachers obviously continue to grow. However, the game itself has diminished from something special into a lowest-common-denominator activity.

When we started playing this game eight 😯 years ago, it was truly a “high-tech treasure hunt” taking you to out-of-the-way places. The technology was also sketchier. There was much more to be gained from networking with people, through the forums, for advice about how to do things.

Today, geoaches are everywhere, park-and-grabs are ubiquitous, and geocaching is well-known. There are classes in school, girl scout and boy scout badges, youth programs, and on and on. There are freely available smartphone apps. There is simply less of a need for people to network because, quite frankly, the game has gotten a lot more easy and a lot less special.

My 2 cents which, added to $1.98, will get you a grande Pike’s Place black.

Really no different from what has gone on with the Appleton Puzzle Tour Bus for some time now. There will always be those for whom an electronic icon is more important than the personal experience.

Sweet! That’s exactly what I was looking for. I don’t know why I didn’t find that when searching the store.

2 minutes of using it and I can already do everything I need. Perfect. Thanks!

I installed VMware for the handful of apps that either won’t run in Mac (GSAK) or I don’t yet want to replace with Mac versions (Quickbooks). It works fantastic and the best part is Windows runs faster in the virtual environment than it ever did on the PC…

FWIW, I used “Waypoint” for this particular group. The interface was very simple for a young group.

What about just searching by the distance attribute?

    Bump.

The 2012 HOF voting, which Rick was in, received over 100,000 votes. Rick alone received over 33,000.

The 2013 HOF voting received 30,000 votes. Total.

Permanently attached = Drilled into the tree beyond the very outer layer of bark.

Therefore, a fire tack or other push pin is ok.

    A nail or screw not.

Oh come on now kbraband, that’s just a little bit overblown. Make that a lot overblown.

We don’t have geocachers asking about going down a class 3 rapids; they are asking about flat water recreational kayaking.

I’ve paddled and/or received training in whitewater kayaking, rec kayaking, and canoeing. You’re 10x more likely to dump yourself out of the average tippy canoe than you are out of your Fleet Farm ‘yak unless you decide to do something really stupid. And if you do, it’s the stupidity that killed you, not the craft you were in.

My advice is to avoid the inflatable ‘yak and spend a few hundred on an entry level craft you don’t have to worry about patching.

Ahhhh…nothing! I just have never seen the map button, which I attribute to senility. Thanks. 😯

Man, I haven’t looked at Wherigo for years since I built our two cartridges. I’m not a programmer so the learning curve was huge. Probably wouldn’t build one again.

I downloaded Free GPS. Being able to update the coordinates is a definite plus, but I like the interface of Waypoint for a young group.
