Be prepared to get a number of responses from people who say if you don’t like these hides just don’t find them, don’t tell me how to play the game, I like these hides, etc etc etc….that’s pretty predictable.

In the intererst of disclosure we do own a “roadsider” ourselves. But I agree with you and, IMO, these types of hides becoming the rule, rather than the exception, has changed the nature of the game, and not in a good way. The “Quest for Road Signs” does not carry the long lasting appeal of “Treasure Hunting in Interesting Places.”

Checked out the voting today. The guy from Pennsylvania was in the lead by 13. He is a High School teacher and most of the comments on his voting page are from his students. Funny that his vote counts seem to soar during school hours. He has his students voting for him during class!!! Do you want the Green Bay Packer Fan Hall of Fame inductee being decided by a bunch of high school students from PA? Vote Rick Wiltzius daily!!!

I’m hoping that the kids forget about multiple voting. Only being a fan since 2003 is a travesty!!! How did he get into the finals anyway? 30+ years to wait for tickets, now that’s commitment. Go Rick!!!

Vote early, vote often, and unlike other politicking going on as we type, it’s legal!

2008 was a huge and unusual year for us, with a lot of caches being published close by and several large series. In the past two years I can count the number of caches published within 10 miles of us on one hand.

About half of our FTFs are puzzles and, For the most part, our FTFs lately are pure happenstance. On the three most recent ones, one was a traditional, but off the beaten path in an area we had coincidentally scheduled a trip to. The other two were puzzles that had been in the field for over a year.

That is WEIRD and they were NOT there before.

What I think happened is that the FTF display is “dynamic.” In other words if you look at the HTML you post into your profile, it links to an image stored on the mygeocachingprofile site.

So I’m guessing that sometime after I updated my profile, the service finally processed the file and the image got re-rendered.

    Or something…whatever!

I get double points in geocaching too, I just log caches twice.

I hope you are recovered from the holidays because it is time to gear up for another Munzee DOUBLE DOUBLE POINT POINT WEEKEND WEEKEND!

Capturing and deploying munzees will be worth double the points starting January 13th (Friday) at 1:00PM CST until midnight CST on January 15th (Sunday). We are extending the weekend times so that international players don’t get cut short.

    😈

Yes. And I believe it’s 366 days between finds. A few cachers watch some of the high D/T caches and intentionally wait for 1 year! Of course, they have no control over another cacher ruining their “best laid plans”! That’s part of the ‘game’!

I think we’ve been down this discussion road in the forums before…the verbiage says “1 year or more” so I thought the interpretation was 365 days, just like any other one year anniversary…feel free to correct me if I’m wrong.

Yup, GR is correct. It is one year to the date. (ie. Feb 3,2011–Feb 3, 2012)

Holy crap, first time for everything!

Edit: and an FTP to boot… 😛

While munzee emphasizes the “score” in the game, that doesn’t preclude it from taking you to interesting places, etc. You have a right to say it is for lazy people or is no fun I suppose. I have not tried it, but I could see it being fun for the kids who like to fiddle with their phones and who don’t care any more about “what’s in the box,” and who also don’t do the log writing for our team.

Regarding log writing….You know, it’s kinda funny…a while back I had posted on a letterboxing forum about how it would be nice if the letterboxing sites had a better “public comment” feature. Well I just about got run out of town on a rail. The consensus was, who cares about the online experience because I really want to see their stamp in the log book.

Many different versions of what is essentially the same hide and seek game, for different constituencies. None inherently “better” than the other IMO.
