Thanks to the PTB behind this long lasting endeavor. It’s really weird to see caches back on the list that we found several years ago.

Still wishin’ we coulda claimed year-unfound double points and the FTF bonus on those Sailor Jerry caches…that woulda been sweet. 😛

I know, I know, no whining!

The bar has been raised so high that from the ground here it looks like a toothpick…

    Ok, it’s a strained analogy…but congratulations!

And some ‘boxers characterize geocaching as a lazy man’s version of letterboxing. No pesky stamps you need to carve and no clues to decipher to figure out where the box is, just follow the little arrow on your screen.

    All a matter of perspective……..

Ok, back on topic…to rephrase my original post that caused such indignation:

“JD, this is a thread that is essentially based on a number of complaints and opinions. The title itself asks for opinions. To complain about people complaining therefore makes no sense (unless you truly are “glad to see” that we are still complaining about the same stuff…)

Furthermore, based on your post earlier this year about how you felt people here were telling others how to play the game, it’s pretty clear that your post here continues that theme. So, to follow that up with some sarcastic “suggestions” about how the WGA should tell people how to play the game is not helpful.”

I thought my original reply was more in keeping with the tone of JD’s post…so be it.

How about we take on the logging issue as a group, come up with a resolution on what we would like to see and have it become part of joining the WGA.

I’d support this idea of the WGA promoting more than the minimum requirements. I think too often the path of least resistance is to follow the minimum GC.com guidelines (rules?). The WGA is member driven and it’s the member’s ideas that drive the WGA forward.

CJ, I fear you completely missed the sarcasm that is dripping from the post….and which prompted my response…

I have noticed the lack of familiar faces posting here on the boards over the past year and a half. Sure some folks move along and perhaps lose interest in participating in the discussions here. But I find myself wondering if the forums have themselves lost much of the relevance they once held.

Ummmmmmm….I didn’t write that second one BGG.

I have a right to be critical about people being critical. As do you all.

I thought there was something in the guidelines about the “expectation of permanence” or something like that. Although exceptions were made for things like Christmas caches, the idea is that a cache would stick around for a while.

I want to see less of the Republican presidential candidates and the Kardashians.

I would settle for an end to the 24/7/365 electioneering industry in this country, whether it be 4-year long presidential campaigns on a national level or the endless recalls in this state.

Why am I suddenly thinking of the “what I want for Christmas” thread?

As mentioned before…. Geocaching.com isn’t the only geocache listing website. Might want to check the other sites before yanking a perfectly good cache out of play…

You do know that once a cache is archived on geocaching.com, it instantly becomes geo-litter, right? 😯

Ah…no, it does not. I hope you are joking.

What if you archive a letterbox hybrid but decide to keep it listed on atlasquest and letterboxing? What if you archive a regular cache but decide to keep it published on various other geocaching sites? What if you archive a cache on geocaching.com but decide to keep it “in play” to use for a class or scout group?

ALL caches are “geo-litter” by someone’s definition. The question is if they can be logged, and whether they can be removed.

Both of those questions are answered by the owner. The vast majority of rescue missions involving removal of caches involve caches that have been force-archived for maintenance issues.

And remember, the WGA is not groundspeak, and groundspeak is only a listing service. It does not own caches and we have no right to fiddle with them unless the terms of service around the listing are violated–as in the lack of maintenance to keep a cache in playable condition. Simply deciding to not list a cache there anymore does not violate those terms.

As I said earlier, file a rescue mission if you feel an in place cache should be removed. That is the authorization procedure.

It’s time to have a reviewer pipe in here.
