I miss geocaching but am living vicariously through the LCG Wunderkinder.
On the Left Side of the Road...It will be interesting to see the “controls” surrounding these and how that reconciles with groundspeak’s continued movement away from “verification” features put in by COs–ALRs, photos, etc.
Ah-course, if their objective is just to have more, more, more, more opportunities to tick up the ol’ find-o-meter, then you just open the floodgates and let people start logging whether they’re on-site or in Germany.
On the Left Side of the Road...Ringtone?
On the Left Side of the Road...Ringtone?
On the Left Side of the Road...Because my favorite phrase is
THERE….IS….YOUR….DAGGER!!!!!
On the Left Side of the Road...Yeah there is. Go into the edit cache page, where you can choose the D and T ratings.
Click the link for “try this system.”
That page is different than the last time I looked (which is ???)
There is a radio button for: “Finding this cache requires very specialized knowledge, skills, or equipment. This is a serious mental or physical challenge.”
Checking this box has no impact on the T rating of the cache when I try it. In other words, keep all the other radio buttons “easy,” then check that button, and you will end up with a D5/T1 cache! So, the specialized equipment now factors into the D rating, not the T.
Even checking the “steep elevation” box with this box will only get you a T4. So mountain climbing or rapelling is a T4 without adding in anything else regarding the trail or terrain.
Now, to make it more confusing, if you read the descriptions that come up, you will see that T5 caches are still supposed to be “Requires specialized equipment and knowledge or experience, (boat, 4WD, rock climbing, SCUBA, etc) or is otherwise extremely difficult.”
BUT…putting that in the rating system…gets you a 1.
Anyhoo, play around with it and you’ll see what I mean. It is weird.
Now of course you can just ignore this and put in whatever you want, but this seems to be a little off.
On the Left Side of the Road...Was that really the audio? I think we were yelling to loud to hear Ick-man.
I miss the days before audio delay and I could have the radio up and the TV down.
On the Left Side of the Road...No eponymous threads, unless they’re congratulatory, is a good rule of thumb.
On the Left Side of the Road...From the main menu you should be able to select “exclude own and found caches”
On the Left Side of the Road...That is hilarious. I actually found this cache (in person, not in abstentia).
What’s the point? Seriously, is there a contest with a cash prize or something over there for high find counts? A boredom pandemic? Viagra shortage?
On the Left Side of the Road...Zing! 😆
On the Left Side of the Road...Well I can certainly understand. What could possibly be more fun than writing a valueless electronic log for a nonexistent container in a place you never visited?
On the Left Side of the Road...Hey, thanks, that’s cool.
On the Left Side of the Road...So the question is since c:geo is so popular, because it’s so good, why does groundspeak pretend it doesn’t exist? Why not go after it like the recording industry targeted the original napster? Or, lock down your infrastructure so the app doesn’t work? Or, better yet, why not make your app so attractive that people will choose it over the other?
I suspect they can’t go after the app because it’s the use of it that violates the terms of service and not the app itself. I.e., groundspeak has no contact with cgeo, just with geocachers.
On the Left Side of the Road...So you know how you have a problem with your car, that squeak from the back tire you just can’t figure out, and the day you take it into the garage it works fine? I called my provider and, of course, the site access worked again when I was trying to explain the problem. 😳
Must’ve been that last goat I sacrificed.
