Again I ask, some one please explain how the current logo makes any cooralation the Geocaching in Wisconsin. And as an orginization we are trying to get new people. I’d have to say that our advertising STINKS!
Maybe it does, maybe it doesn’t. But who cares? The WGA is not the WGA website. The WGA is the WGA membership. If the Minnesota association came up with a kick-butt site I still wouldn’t join them because I don’t live there.
Regarding advertising, I don’t know what you’re basing your opinion on. Our advertising should be focused on letting people know we exist. I simply don’t see the logo having any influence on people making their decision.
Do what makes sense in a particular situation, get agreement from the committee or general membership as needed, and move forward on each project. KISS.
On the Left Side of the Road...First, in the interest of full disclosure, I was one of the people who made a big deal about the logo change. I could go back and review what I all had said, because I don’t remember…and that’s the point. I was wrong back then to get impassioned about it.
Truth be told I don’t really care a whit about the logo. I don’t care if it’s color or black and white. I don’t care if we fill in the state with a solid color or do the fancy picture thing. We’re not a multi billion dollar business where we’re trying to get people to pick our product off the shelf based on a split second decision formed over countless hours of exposure to our advertising.
We’re a small, nonprofit association and it doesn’t make a difference how our logo looks because we’re not going to attract one person to our association based on it. People come here because they first know about geocaching, then decide to associate with a bunch of people who feel similarly.
So, my vote is to do whatever looks cool and fits best with a particular point-in-time usage. Not only do I see little risk of any brand confusion, but even if people are completely confused about our brand, what possible difference does it make to our membership, existence, and purpose?
On the Left Side of the Road...If you actually need me on the committee, happy to serve in whatever capacity I am able. Not sure how much use I would be!
