Well I’m still ticked. If has a boat attribute on it you better use a boat even if it means dragging it behind you on the ice in winter.

All right, I think I’ve stolen and beaten this thread to death. Sorry Todd300….

Keeping in mind that stats are meaningless, it’s not about the numbers, yada yada yada…

This is very frustrating when COs put out a whopper of a D5 puzzle and we bust our humps solving it, only to see the CO decide a few months later to put in hints and cut the D in half. 😥

Yeah yeah, it doesn’t matter, but I like having those 5s on the grid, what can I say? So it would be nice to lock those at a point in time.

I wonder if that suggestion has been on the groundspeak feedback feature.

It changes the D/T rating so you’re screwed if you’re counting on that one, unless you get special dispensation from the CO.

I think they may have slowed down for the yellow caution flag…now that the green has been raised I expect to see pedal to the metal, I will not be taking you up on that bet!!!!

What’s amazing is that the bulk of it came in one year, easily smashing the single-season record….

Only 14 revisits (only one team in the top 4 with fewer 😉 )…

    The highest found it count…

And if my memory and an occasional perusal of the logs is any indication, I don’t think there have been a lot of replacement points logged, authorized or otherwise.

And of course, no “pencilette,” “baggie,” or “minor maintenance” points as could be had pre-2009…. 🙄

Truly amazing stuff. HP2 is like Wisconsin playing Indiana…just toying with us all before a big push in the final quarter…

Judas Priest, we are completely screwed. If they’re going to blow up hearing aids left in a bank, what possible chance to we have with an ammo can????

Oh, BTW, just PART socialist? That’s the understatement of the year…. 😛

Right now, there are lots of better ideas than what geocaching.com has to offer. Geocaching.com has become more strict on its guidelines over time, at the same time that it has worked continously (though perhaps not intentionally) to squelch creativity. No virtual caches, webcams, or locationless caches. No caches that require you to do meet additional fun requirements. No placing caches within .1 miles of another cache. No, no, no, no, no.

But, to break the monopoly and the “kleenex(C)” type name-recognition where geocaching.com is synonymous with the sport, you need not just a better idea and offering, but the the capitalization and committment.

I look at letterboxing as an example of this. The granddaddy of sites is letterboxing.org. However, that site is a complete dog. Dated and static. So someone took it upon himself to create atlasquest.com and devoted his passion into getting it off the ground. I’m not sure which site has more listings but I would guess atlasquest, and it is a much better site.

Of course, it helped that LB.com doesn’t mind that AQ is in its “space,” to the point of allowing it to link to letterbox descriptions hosted on the site and vice-versa.

Right now I just don’t see that anywhere in the caching realm. But, as you say, one day it will happen. (and it will be interesting to see what the number-hunters do with their lives then!)

Sorry to hear that CJ. I was really hoping to see your talents put into helping bring the site a 2010 look and feel.

Who knows? Some deadwood floated away that improved my outlook on the association; maybe you’ll experience a similar situation.

    Revised Cache Appreciation Ratio formula

[# of hides + # of logs with more than two sentences – # of TFTC logs + (# of WGA forum posts/10) + # of FTP posts – # of posts containing a picture of the Burger King dude] / # of finds = CAR

Looks like someone near Mathatopia is developing a Puzzle Cache……… 😉

12/2095 = .006! Proof positive that this formulae does not work for all scenarios, although as a general rule, I agree. The HP2 crew writes, and I am not overstating this, THE BEST CACHE LOGS in the country, IMHO at least. If anyone can show me another cacher which exhibits their CAR with as consistently eloquent and entertaining logs as this pair, I’ll take you and them to dinner!

Just this morning I was privy to a new Found It log on Innervisions|Up the Rabbit Hole, that reminded me, again, where the true reward come from in this sport… you are right GR, it’s all about the CAR!

Dude, you didn’t read the whole formula! Chances are HP2 would score over a 1.0, unless they have a lot of BK King posts…

Ya know, this explains lots of things about the “math” in your field solve puzzles … 🙄

“We regret to inform you that our database was corrupted and we never thought to back it up, so we have lost all records of caches you have found.”

Now that would drive some people downright suicidal.

    Here’s my Cache Appreciation Ratio:

    # of hides / # of finds = CAR

The higher the CAR, the more likely the cacher is to replace hides as intended, write meaningful logs, and otherwise express appreciation to cache owners.

The lower the CAR, you get the opposite, all the way down to when you get a zero.

But I do want to hear from the Green Bay Metro area geocachers if they have started any dialogue with the Green Bay Metro area police departments and get them informed about geocaching.

Perhaps a new thread can be started on any progress of any dialogue between the geocaching community and the local LEO’s not just in Green Bay, but in other communities as well.

This is something that the Community Education Committee is currently and actively working on with the GBPD, the Ashwaubeon PD which has its own force, and the Brown County Sheriff’s Office which provides police to many of the villages that surround GB.

So, everyone stay tuned; it takes time for these things to play out. But I will say at this point that there is interest on the part of some departments to work together.
