Got ours in the mail today and these are really quite nice. I think our kids enjoyed last year’s “cow” design more, but from my standpoint I prefer these. Very classy. Now the question is if I should release one or not.

Ok you thread stealers, since the cans are already spoken for…

My idea of the perfect cache is one you have to work hard to get to but is sitting right there when you get there. Hence, the big classic ammo can hidden concealed by little more than obvious stickouflage(tm) or SPOR. For us caching is about getting to GZ and seeing new and interesting things along the way. Wandering in circles for an hour after you get to GZ is not our idea of fun, and we find little joy in hunting for a filmstrip canister tossed into a shrub in the middle of a roundabout across from a busy strip mall.

I would have deleted that log the second after I got the inbox notifcation of potentially illegal activity with a PM explanation to the finder as to why. If they remember their trip differently upon reflection or relog with a TFTC, so be it.

This is really crazy stuff. I know that geocaching is completely trivial compared with anything of real importance that gets damaged by the flooding…but, with that said, I’m sure glad we decided to go river-caching LAST weekend!

Whatever you do, do not….I repeat NOT add the newest Oregon update to your unit.

What the? Well how the heck are we supposed to know that, Garmin??? Anyhoo, I’m running v 3.7 and the current is v 3.8 so I’m not updating…so that’s not the problem

The problem is only when driving, but they’ve never had problems with sat lock in the vehicle before. Which makes me think its a larger problem unrelated to the specific units, but I haven’t dug up any news on that. I did find out that when Garmin did a beta system update in 2009 there was a similar problem because of the algorithms it used for choosing satellites to lock on to, or something like that, but I haven’t done a system update recently. It’s very strange, these things have been rock solid and with 2 units acting strangely in the same way, odds are that it’s something else going on.

We used an ifinder for several years, but I’m not sure what you are referring to by transfering “loc maps.” If you have the LEI mapping software, which I assume you do because you have the card reader (it should be a collection of 8 or so CDs), once you install the map to the SD card the ifinder reads the map from the card.

Could you further explain the problem you are having?

There’s competition involved? When did this happen? 😯

Many communities and cemeteries have rules against being in them after dark. It was rumored to be a WI state statute but we couldn’t track down that info. In any case, I would consider it a bad idea, and it is noted as such to our cemetery caches (albeit sometimes ignored).

Well if it’s Bear Grylls, you’d have to find a spot for the camera crew, and you’d have to be sure to stick a derelict canoe out in the middle of the swamp that could be easily patched with something he happened to have in his backpack. I can start writing the script now about how really, really, really dangerous it is…. 🙄

Just read the (2-part) log. Wow! On one hand now I’m thinking, gee I could have made it, but on the other hand I think I’m glad I didn’t! Maybe it was divine providence that I only brought my knee boots that day instead of chest waders….

Ya know, I had half a mind to make a run at a month after a long hiatus from “serious” play, but it’s really hard to compete when a certain someone can bag 45 points (55 points with a replacement???) on one cache alone. So, now it appears I have just half a mind, which will surprise no one on these forums…. 😛
