  • I can give you a visual on it as to whether we can see snowmobile trails to the point. That will give you a good idea.

The bigger problem however is the snow. The very tip of the point is most likely heavily drifted. Without giving the hide away here, let me just say that it is not winter-findable without some very lucky and pinpoint excavating, and since it is not metal there is the risk of damage from poking and prodding. But that’s just my 2 cents!

I also agree that there should be notification of log edits, but since it’s been brought up so many times on the GC forums, I doubt that a new thread would help much.

Well then I’m in all kinds of trouble for bringing it up again. 😆

Honestly I never can find anything useful in those forums. The search function tends to give me “no results” on however I stucture my queries. Might just be me…

3 law enforcement visits on one cache! 😯 You’re not even the suspicious looking type. Frizz on the other hand…

Another thing that could be wrapped into this type of notification is when cachers change logs, either making substantial text changes or changing logs. For instance, I know some cachers like to go back and change DNF logs to found it when they do find the cache. So I threw it out there.

Regarding the photos, probably the best way to do it for now is to occasionally run a PQ of owned caches and click the gallery link under the search preview.

I hadn’t thought about the fact that a picture posting is essentially a “log edit” function. I guess that makes sense.

Step A is to spend some time researching the groundspeak forums to see if this has been brought up before…I’ll put it on the to-do list.

It is not necessary but appreciated.

The most memorable FTF prizes have been themed ones (that go with the theme of the cache).

My advice is to do what make YOU feel happy about the cache, not just in terms of FTF prizes but in other aspects, because if you try to make everyone else happy you will drive yourself batty!

Congrats all. I had to make firewood with the father in law, which was probably more fun anyway. 😥

I didn’t catch the fact that the posted coordinates were dummy coordinates. It’s probably easiest for the owner to simply update the posted coordinates to WP1 and list parking coordinates in the additional waypoint list. The alternative is to republish (why bother) or to request a cache type change, and my experience has been it’s difficult to get the cache type changed after a cache is already published. (“Messes up people’s stats.”)

Just a suggestion, but you might want to avoid making criticisms about specific caches in these forums.

My concern was that one multi-cache could tie up an entire park. I’m happy to learn that this isnt the case.

It still can as cheeto alludes to, it just has to have physical waypoints.

The one notable exception to this being night caches, where fire tacks (mini reflectors) placed by a cache owner are not considered physical waypoints for proximity purposes.

That can be frustrating when you’re trying to place a cache where a multi exists, but it’s just a fact of the game–like trying to account for puzzle finals for proximity (a whole other topic, probably discussed in these forums somewhere 😈 ).

I was doing a cache this afternoon, that was labled as a Multi.
However, this “multi” wasn’t really a multi, but a puzzle/ mystery.
I had to go from stage to stage picking up clues from various landmarks. The only cache was at the very end (still haven’t made it there yet, going there tomorrow)

This is appropriately published as a multi cache. Multi cache guidelines state:

“Offset caches are a variation on multi-caches. They are listed as a multi-cache when selecting a cache type. They are not found by simply going to some coordinates and finding a cache there. With the offset cache the published coordinates could be of an existing historical monument, plaque, or even a benchmark that you would like to have your cache hunter visit. At this spot, the hunter looks for numbers or information already appearing on the marker or on some part of the marker or site (geocachers never deface public or private property). The geocacher is then able to manipulate these numbers or information using instructions posted on the cache page to continue the hunt.”

In the cache you reference, you go to various points, and “manipulate those numbers.”

Now correct me if I’m wrong, but cant this 7 stage “multi”, complete with waypoints for each stage, restrict placement of new caches within the same park because of the 528ft rule?

If there are physical (i.e., owner-placed) waypoints there, it does put the 528 foot rule into effect around each of those waypoints as it relates to other caches. However, if they are only “reference points” (i.e., nothing placed by the owner, such as an existing sign or landmark), it would not.

So in this particular cache, because these are all classified as “Questions to Answer,” there would be no 528 foot restriction on those particular points.

I’ve never seen that. Or if I have, it’s been very seldom.

Come on, guys. Inside jokes are the pits to new people here.

OK, Helidood and others… Cacher seldom|seen in the Appleton area has put out lots of caches, including lots of puzzle caches. He has a bit of a reputation of sometimes publishing before all the kinks are worked out, and he often uses the early finders (aka guinea pigs) to help him tweak the caches into more user-friendly versions. Many times it’s just the coordinates that are considered not too reliable. But the caches of seldom|seen, and many times his containers, are some of the best you’d want to see in caching.

Well ya, that’s why I cut out all the first part of labrat’s quote just to focus on the guinea pig part.

Tough crowd! But I’ll be here all week. Try the fish.
