That type of cache should be allowable. There are many caches that take you to links for documents, audio, or video files. You do (in my experience) need to put a disclaimer on the cache page that you have personally examined the file to ensure it contains no malicious content, and I’m absolutely certain every such cache out there with this disclaimer on it has been personally examined. 🙄

The prohibition applies to requiring cachers to install some sort of actual program executable on their machine.

Added some new ones to the list. Again my parameters is that it is a bona fide “island” cache and not just a “water” (i.e., shoreline inaccessible except by water cache). I have also not included finals to mystery caches so as not to give away location clues.

Despite, or in the beauty of, yesterday’s fresh powder, fresh tracks were laid down to several of the caches this morning, so tracking to the finds will be easier.

    Yep, NOW there’s a trail!

Granted it’s not wild by northwoods standards, but it’s really something for being 5 minutes from Appleton metro:

A real geocacher would have dumped out the dirt in the flowerpot.

Didn’t I also see a log that mentioned a couple of thorns near one of the caches? 😆 😆 😆

By the looks of my jacket, there are a lot fewer now than before I went out there 😯

Kudos to seldom|seen for not only putting this idea together, but for going above and beyond in working with the YMCA to get this series approved. Initially the Y was very skeptical of these placements, but with some education, diplomacy and multiple meetings with staff, he was able to get ‘er done. (Speaking of outreach! 😀 ) I sincerely hope cachers respect the simple access rules to continue the good relations established.

If you’re from the northwoods, the terrain shouldn’t pose too much of a challenge, but be prepared for some up-the-hill-down-the-hill cardio!

Looking at the responses thus far (thank you), my original question was poorly worded. We all have our own opinions about how things should or should not be done but looking backward is not really germane to the issue and I should not have brought it up.

I also don’t want to put candidates, whether currently on the board or not, in the awkward position of having to go on defense just to answer a position question.

Therefore, and my apologies to those who have already answered, let me rephrase this more simply:

“I would like to hear from the various candidates about what they feel the role of the WGA should be outside the association’s own events and interal proceedings. Does the candidate believe the WGA should be more active than it currently is and, if so, I would like to hear the candidate’s thoughts on how that might be accomplished.”

But where’s the GC#? (Applies to cachers from Germany only)

Just thought I would update this for anyone interested who hasn’t been directly involved in the process, as best as I understand where things are.

-The “pillars of scouting” travel bugs have been activated and released to various cachers in the Bay Lakes Council area: Leadership (SCAN31), Character (SC16V3), Achievement (SCQF4T), Service (SCQ455) & Outdoors (SCKWFQ).

-The council has sourced ammo cans and supplies for the various caches. Eagle Scout project sites and scout camps have been identified as potential locations, with final decisions yet to be made.

-Caches will be placed after the winter.

-The council has established a geocaching account and will own the cache listings. However, 10 local cachers have volunteered to work with the council on placement. Having experienced cachers involved in the process should hopefully address concerns about caches meeting guidelines.

    can you dance, as well?

Nope, I am a very poor dancer. It’s a good thing we don’t hold a formal WGA dance event….

As for my poor Phoon attempt, I tried my best. 😉

Looks like the Safety Dance to me

We can dance if we want to
We can leave your friends behind
    Cause your friends don’t dance
    And if they don’t dance
Well they’re no friends of mine

Sorry, thought this was the OT forums for a minute 😉

More important, does this mean we don’t get the stickers? 😥

Although the criticism is pointed, I think it’s perfectly reasonable to wonder why a passed motion has not been acted upon. Yes this is not a big deal in the grand scheme of things, but let’s just get ‘er done and put this contentious issue to rest!
