Thanks all. It’s been a fun year exploring some remote places and solving some gnarly puzzles. For us the fun of the game is finding things that haven’t seen the light of day for a while, in some cases for over two years, and to work on “clearing the map.” The adventure meant more than any score–although I will admit it is fun to rack up numbers and there were times I wouldn’t have minded having the extra “minor maintenance” points of the 2008 season.
It will be interesting to see how many of the single-season marks set in 2009 get smashed in 2010, and by whom. With unfound lonelies getting farther and farther from our home base–something Dave and Alex can surely appreciate as well–and with our personal penchant for logging no revisit points, I’m pretty sure that we are one-year wonders.
So………………….who’s next? 😀

On the Left Side of the Road...8) x 6,000!
On the Left Side of the Road...I heard that too…just SSSStay warm because it’s a long walk to the SSSSecond one! Too bad the first one isn’t lonely any more.
On the Left Side of the Road...Flying, driving, hiking, running, snowshoeing, skiing, kayaking, motor-boating, biking, and wading to caches.
Oh, and enjoying the lonely cache game. 8)
On the Left Side of the Road...THANK YOU for an accomplishment we all can appreciate. And I would humbly disagree and say that 200 is in fact a high number if those caches are quality hides that are regularly maintained.
On the Left Side of the Road...8) x 5,000!
On the Left Side of the Road...T&B–
I’ve noticed this happen occasionally. When you are in the browse or open window, try right-clicking in the blank space and see if it gives you the option for new->folde
On the Left Side of the Road...How was the tapioca pudding? 🙂
On the Left Side of the Road...Navarino Bob, which we adopted, offers the parking you need and all the find-it-in-winter attributes, although I’m not sure about the cooking part. However, I would say that this would be right on the lower edge of your distance/difficulty cutoff–a worthy cache to do but not an epic adventure.
On the Left Side of the Road...8) x 1,500!!!!!
On the Left Side of the Road...It’s obviously the responsibility of the owner to keep these caches “legal” and it’s the fault of armchair loggers for ruining these in general. However, it’s also unfortunate–and somewhat ironic–that a discussion on these forums that eventually led to a “nastygram” to the owner seems to have led to the archival of these caches. 🙁

I continue to be surprised by how FEW people are watching caches.
Maybe they’re not worth watching.

really thinking of getting a 550 for a Christmas gift for my self (although it will be a couple of days late) is it worth the extra $100 for the topo maps, or are the base maps decent enough for navigation in the woods?
Our 400t came with topo maps and we found the level of detail unnecessary for caching.
When we bought the 550 we also bought city navigator maps for auto routing purposes. We have likewise added CN to the 440t and we now use those maps for everything on both units and never toggle back to the topo maps.
So my recommendation would be to buy the 550 as is, then decide if you need another map.
On the Left Side of the Road...8) x a lifetime!
Congratulations!
