Here’s my thoughts – A rescue is a separate task completely. Kind of like extra points for replacing with owner’s permission.

The analogy isn’t bad, however remember the point is that in most cases rescue list caches are not on the LCG list to begin with as a find opportunity because they are not active. I’m guessing if you troll through the active rescue mission lists none are. So really the purpose of the rescue in the context of the game is a single task. And, 10 points is a pretty good average for what a “found it” would score in the LCG anyway.

My hunch is that most rescues are being done by people that have visited prior because they know the cache.

I don’t think that’s true. At least in our case, nearly all the rescue missions we’ve done have been on caches we hadn’t found before. And we were doing rescue missions regularly before the LCG came along–we like the cleanup aspect of it, not to mention the occasional reusable cache container.

It would be relatively rare that a cache would be both on the LCG list as a “find it” opportunity AND as a rescue list so it’s not a big deal, and double dipping is allowed.

    See: GCVC6N

The cache was found, earned big “found it” points for length of time since last being found, then earned 10 more points for the rescue mission. Though it’s unclear how that disabled cache ended up on the September list anyway, it’s a relatively rare situation and not a big deal.

The only limitations I’m aware of is that there cannot be an “agenda” and it should be in line with being a family oriented game. I don’t see why your puzzle idea would cause any concern at all.

If you were to take a good look at these roads, you will find they are country roads. The traffic here is almost non existent.

I have been on these roads in years past for other activities, and we just stopped in the road, and did our thing. Actually, got out lawnchairs, and sat in the road for a while! No traffic.

    I sit corrected!

That could be. I wonder if the “geocoin buddy” tags used to be round? It was a round tag, that I remember.

Close but not quite. The tag I saw had a twisted metal braid cable and not a chain.

I can’t help but give this topic a fresh look in the light of the “safety” issue associated with roundabouts and the supposed danger to the general public that cachers cause while being a pedestrian there.

Look at your average power caching trip or someone chasing one of these “muther” outlines and tell me how the driving antics, questionable parking, and dashes-across-the-roads that we all know are taking place are any less dangerous or less likely to cause accidents.

It says right there you will be caching…. How is this any different?

So what prevent others from having an event to enjoy each other’s camaraderie and looking for caches?

My understanding, which can be confirmed, is that the event cannot be proposed around the primary goal finding existing caches.

    So, you can have a:
    Party
    Gathering
    Get-together
    Pow-Wow
    Meeting

where you enjoy each other’s company, and that satisfies the requirements.

And oh by the way, after the meeting we will also be hunting all the caches in the park we are meeting at. 😉

My advice would be not to worry about what people complain about your caches, because if they don’t like them, they can go hunt something else or, better yet, go place some that they do like that everyone else can find.

With that said, I think you are talking about GC1XN32. Five finds and three DNFs on a D3 that’s only been out less than a month isn’t too bad. Why not let it percolate for a while?

If you really want to give it a hint, without knowing how and where the cache is hidden, it’s hard for someone else to do. I’d recommend sending an email to one of the previous finders. Peach would probably be able to help.

    WOW!

Everyone has so many harsh comments about roundabouts. I happen to
have placed a cache inside of one.

You better be careful Mathman. According to some people this is equivalent to committing a crime. If you place 4 more, you’ll be committing a felony in Wisconsin!

I also believe that these placements could be “prevented” rather than “banned” by giving them a bit more scrutiny on the review process….Yeah it’s being subjective (requiring explicit permission here but not there) on the review process, but isn’t it always subjective really anyway?? Otherwise we wouldn’t need volunteer reviewers.

It’s a logical argument. The whole topic of “permission” has been discussed here before but we all know it’s a nod-and-wink process except when it is governmentally required. (Ok, now I’m sure someone is going to tell me that they send the boilerplate form available on this site on every one of their caches.)

I still don’t think anything different should be done than is being done right now, but it also appears the appropriate tools/guidelines are already in place vis-a-vie permissions to address any issues surrounding these caches that reviewers have concerns with, or which the caching community collectively decides should be addressed.

Obviously we won’t get 100% agreement on any issue. Well, other than “geocaching is great!” perhaps….
