    Nicely done!

16 left for us, most of which are spread on the inverse “L” as you would expect, but we’re getting there…

OPS, I agree with the definition, but not your conclusion. I don’t see geocaching as “competitive” (including the LCG!). If that makes it an “activity” according to Webster so be it. People can trumpet their “World Record” all they want but who really gives a darn if you find 500 caches in a day or 100,000 caches in a lifetime? Should someone try to lord their figures over my head, and I will laugh in their general direction.

It’s just sad to see this sort of thing because geocaching used to be such a neat way to spotlight those cool places on the planet- thin spaces where the past seems like it’s such a small touch away that your spine tingles, beautiful views, interesting geology, fascinating people, etc.

There is still plenty of opportunity in geocaching for that. I don’t see the two spectrums – wild 5/5 opportunities and 1/1 driveups – being mutually exclusive.

Ok, Zuma and I are thinking alike. Next thing you know Marc will buy me a beer, and Obama will cut income taxes in half. 😯

I have no doubt that they completed the task. It would be too easy for someone to spot-check the cache logs for missing or out of sequence logs, particularly since the caches they found are bound to be under more scrutiny now.

I know I said “what’s the point” but that really relates to the cache density and road-sign hides on the trails in the map. As far as this team’s accomplishment goes, it is remarkable in the context of this game. After all, this is a game that celebrates numbers–people getting 1,000 or 10,000 finds…teams setting out to do “numbers runs”…power caching in general. So the fact that they were able to do it better than anyone else has done is something they should get credit for.

I’m guessing each of us deals with family and friends who look at geocaching and don’t “get” the goal of it. Here is a team that set a goal and accomplished it. Agree with the goal or not, it was well done.

For those interested in doing lots of real crappy caches to meet a personal goal of a certain number of finds in one day, take a look at the caches owned by mutherandsun in central Illinois. It would not be real hard to grab 200 of them in a single day with a small amout of planning, as they are almost all road sign caches.

Wow. I know it’s different strokes for different folks, but I can’t help look at this and wonder what’s the point? And so much for needing a GPSr for the hunt on these.

Speaking for our team I can say I hope this type of outcropping never comes to this area…though I could see it happening.

Well I have found the kids to be excellent for providing stealth cover by being able to crawl around and look natural doing it. Particularly good for playgrounds.

I’m starting to get the “When are we going to go flying again?” questions from the peanut gallery so the wheels are a-turnin’ on this one.

Only one lonely cache there though. 😥

I find it interesting that Groundspeak seems to recognize the importance of these tools by apparently purchasing the domain name of one but not incorporating the function into their primary “product”.

Given how buried this ownership is (most wouldn’t know to check the whois DB, and there’s no ownership link on the checker page itself), and the fact that the contact link takes you to a user web page for “Goldenhawk,” we can only guess at the reasons for this…

Maybe they just bought the domain ownership from the developer to protect their interest in a popular site?

Seems to be back up now. I’ve heard…ah…from someone…that…ah…they might be limiting attempts to 5 now rather than 10…not that we’ve ever run across that situation…uhhh…I just heard about it from a friend of mine. 😳

Is this feasible in a day trip?

It looks like there is at least one issue with the underlying caches, but beyond that? Might put this one on the radar if the kids would like it.

Goes to show there’s something for everybody in this game, so good for them. I think they ought to send a thank you card to the cache-hiders who set up those power trails though! Did you see the track map? 😯

We’ll stick to puzzles and caches that require us to get out of the car–to each his or her own!
