    Bump.

Well, I’m sad to report that the ultimate cache in this quest, GC1P8AF, has been archived. I don’t know what Marc’s plans are for the underlying caches in the series but, given that most new finders are unfortunately not taking the time to do the ALRs…

Anyone who spends any time in these forums knows that Marc and I don’t see eye-to-eye on some (many?) issues, but I know a good series when I see one, and this one is. Team gotta run learned a lot, and learned to pay attention to a lot, over the course of the past year.

I have a spreadsheet that we take along when we do other WSQ caches or maintain our own, and even our kids get used to asking, “What else do we need to find?” Many times finding a stone for an ALR was more rewarding than finding whatever we had gone into the cemetery to find in the first place. I think our children got an appreciation of the history, art, and architecture of cemeteries. Daughter-cacher was particularly delighted to find a unicorn AND a rainbow on the same stone. Son-cacher found a big rig. We learned that there is in fact such a thing as a “metal stone.” And I swear we’ll never find a Last Supper unless we use that one in Riverside. 😆

I’m glad we finished the challenge itself before the cache was deep-sixed (a little cemetery reference there), and we’ll still keep looking for pictures for the last dozen or so even if they’re archived.

I’m guessing that people who had a lot invested in completion of the challenge are disappointed to see it go, but c’est la vie.

Thanks LB7! That looks like it has the advantage of not putting in all the extraneous bits that other doc editors like Word chuck in. And it’s free!

I completely agree; cemetery caches should never be “chased.”

A super-sprint Tri by his standards but nicely done.

And nicely done Peach107, who walked the whole thing. You’re crazy, old man!

Grades 2 and 5. Both love school and do well. Major challenge is getting them through another year of public school with some semblance of our traditional family values intact. 😯

Bus was supposed to pick them up at 7:02. First day it got here at 6:45. Usually the run-down-the-driveway-with-shoes-half-untied-one-arm-in-coat-dragging-backpack doesn’t happen until the third or fourth day of school.

Yes…and this is exactly the type of activity for which we have a BOD.

How much more effective approaching representatives will be if we can show them that there is an organized body behind this game, backed of course by 933 active members.

It’s time for the burden to be lifted off a single person for spearheading this effort and for our 9-member board to approach this with a strategy that can get it done, if in fact this is important. If the ball is not picked up we can assume it is unimportant.

Speaking for our member ID, I will be happy to contact our state reps, but it would be most effective to approach them with materials and information that is consistent and reflective of an organizational position.

Wasn’t there a situation a number of years ago regarding the DNR and geocaching? If so, how was that resolved and is there a parallel here?

Also, while it’s clear greyhounder has reached out to the DOT, has the (rest of the) board done anything with this? This seems to be precisely the type of outreach opportunity for which we have a BOD.

Yeah, we all know how much “safer” your average terrain-3-in-the-boonies is compared to those dangerous park-n-rides and rest stops. And I’m sure geocaching really upsets the apple cart when it comes to the “operations” of DOT property. Those film cans under lamp skirts have quite the detrimental impact. 🙄

It’s always easier for bureaucrats to say no. Thank God they’re not running your healthcare yet.

I’d also like to share a trick me and a friend did during the Cache Bash. We each had a water bottle that we filled up at the hotel. I bought a gallon jug at Wal-Mart for 50 cents and filled that up at the hotel as well. Then when our bottles got empty we just refilled them from the jug. Saved time and we didn’t have to pay for drinks!

Oh ya, we tried that trick too. “We’re thirsty!” say the children. Well, you’re in luck, I say, here is some very nice water that I brought from home in your very own water bottle. They look at you like you have horns growing out of your head…

I’m hungry. I’m thirsty. Blah blah blah. Geez, we fed you this morning.

Not to mention that small bladders really cut into lonely caching time. Come on! We just stopped four hours ago! Can’t you just use the port-a-tree?

Da Rulez are back again today…

    3. You can not be the owner of any of the caches that you find or check for this contest.

    12. Rule Clarifications

    a. There is no limit to the number of people who can earn points by finding caches for the first time. There is no limit to the number of people who can earn points by DNFing a cache they haven’t previously found.
    b. A cache can only be “DNFed” while active. If the owner or reviewers disable or archive the cache, it is out of play.
    c. A cache can only be confirmed present or confirmed missing once during the two month list period, unless there is a subsequent DNF. If the cache is visited by two cachers at the same time, they will both get the credit.
    d. A cache cannot be confirmed (either way) after a find, a confirmation note, an enable note, or an owner maintenance visit log is posted during the 2 month period, unless there is a subsequent DNF. If the last log on a cache is an confirmation note, it cannot be confirmed again, regardless of how long ago it was found.
