From tonight’s Appleton Post Crescent, Police Blotter section:
“Town of Menasha
(dated) Feb. 18Suspicious person: A woman reported seeing a man hanging around in Wittman Park “acting Rambo-like.” Now, she said there was another man coming and going and looking up in the trees for something. Police determined they were participants in an online scavenger hunt called “Geocaching.”
Is this talking about the incident that started this thread? Or were there several in the Fox Valley recently?
Look at all the new and unique experiences we have due to this gtreat hobby of ours!

Hwy 54 is locally posted as being open from Waupaca west to Hartman Creek State Park, but closed from the Waupaca-Portage County line to Hwy 51/39.
As time nears, we’d be happy to post driving directions from the four corners of the state.
This section of the highway was just repaved a short time ago. Apparently the new surface is breaking up, and chunks are being thrown up and taking out windshields. WI DOT is working on a settlement with the comntractor, but meantime, closed the road in the interest of safety.
Sounds like somebody really droopped the ball.

The Little Wolf River series is very convenient to your campgrounds (see caches nearby to GCPN4P, or search 54983), are accessible by land, and would fit your terrain needs. These are neat caches. There are a couple of the Yellowstone series near, too. We’ve done most of them in this area, and you won’t be disapointed.
The Iola Zip Code is 54945. We’ve done most of those listed on the first page of that search, and they’re all pretty good. The GBW caches are nearby, and all involve hikes along a former railroad bed. We like the caches put out by by the teams shown on this page, they are always pretty well done in unique areas.
Have you been to the Iola Car Show? I had a streak of ten or twelve straight years, but scheduling problems have kept me away for a couple of years now. I hope to make it back in ’07!

For which model of Palm Pilot? I don’t think they are interchangeable throughout the line, are they?

I also read NE and NC regional forums along with most of the the other ‘regular’ ones. I don’t post a lot of responses to any of them… but I do appreciate the local discussion about the areas we cache in most of the time.

I have not been real comfortable with this either. I was asked to post first name and last initial of the property owner for one of our caches, and so far the owner has been id’d by three or four different cachers. This has not caused a problem yet, but it has raised some concerns.
I am not sure that publically identifying property owners on an open website is a good idea. Hopefully this permission issue can be accomplished in a different way. When it is, I’ll edit my listing.

We just saw this report on the Green Bay news a little while ago. The clip they aired showed an ammo box being opened up with no geocaching markings, but with log book and trinkets. Apparently they must have had some footage archived which they pulled out, rather than go down to FdL and show the real thing… And of course, they had to talk about the cache the Green Bay bomb squad blew up in De Pere a couple of years ago, too.
I’m glad somebody figured out what this one was before they wasted a lot of time and manpower, and blew up another good Yellowston cache!

Hello, Fellow Northites –
We were surprized to find Waupaca County included in da up nort’ section. I guess we’ll try to hold down the southern border.
When we head up nort’ with our canoes in the warmer months, it’s to escape from the southerners who come “up north” to Waupaca!
Overall, we think this is a great idea and are happy to see it.

Thanks so much for all your kind words. They are deeply appreciated, as are the memories shared. Ginger had met many people along the way, and impacted many lives besides our family. She’ll be sorely missed, and will be a tough act to follow should we decide someday to get another dog.

I look at the forum postings almost daily, and post once in awhile. I don’t read everything, but pick and choose depending on the subject line and the locale of the poster. I follow the most topics according to geographical area – Fox Valley / Waupaca area, and up around Oconto County. But some of the general discussions are interesting, too.
If we had regional sub-forums, I would probably go there first, but would still look at everything else, too.
On a side note, we have had both of our kids living up in the Ishpemming and Marquette areas of the U.P. for a couple of years now. Naturally, we do some caching up there, and have signed up for MIGO membership. We are not too active, but do look at their website as we are planning a trip up north to see the kids. MIGO has regional forums, and I have not seem much if any activity on the U.P. section… Cachers seem to be far and few between up there, just like in some parts of northern WI.
Could postings in the general sections be optionally tagged so they got copied to a regional section as well?

Well, I guess maybe I did pretty well with Magellan Customer Service. I had a response within a few days, although it just told me what I had already stated in my email to them. They were not any help, but they at least did reply.
Thanks –
I’ve seen this manual you are referring to, and it’s close, although it is a newer and fancier model.
All Magellan told me was where to look on their website for old manuals. This particular model is not shown.
There are sites all over the Web for antique computers. Lots of information from collectors, online museums, etc. I’m hoping somebody might know of something similar for GPS’, although my searches have not turned up much.

We would also be interested in PowerPoints. We seem to be doing introductory geocaching sessions fairly often to a variety of audiences.
Thanks,
Grandma & Grandpa
We met another caching couple for the first time just this evening at a local restaurant. I recognized them from a photo they’d posted at one of our caches, also the GC pin on his hat was a tip-off. They live very near us. We have rarely bumped into other cachers out on the trail, but have cached many times with others. We’ve only been to 3 or 4 events, but really enjoyed meeting lotsa new friends, and look forward to meeting many more.
We also have a cache near our home which has helped us meet some cachers.
