I rarely read the discussion boards on geocaching.com because of all the bickering, nitpicking, and personal slams. This started out as an interesting thread, but seemed to degenerate.
Let’s not turn this into a geocaching.com forum!

Hi – Did you ever put together the westbound cache list? As of 9 pm last nite, I am suddenly leaving for N Dakota at noon today. I’d like to grab a few caches on the way back. If you have it, & could send it (really quick…), I’d appreciate it.
Thanks, Grandpa Jim
Hi – Are we discussing the Hobo cache in Waupaca? I emailed the owners about a month ago or so offering to adopt this cache, and have had no response. We, too, would be interested in possibly taking this one over, as it is an awesome place for a cache.

WaupacaThe Michigan Geocaching Organization (MiGO) has a link and guidelines on their homepage in regard to archived caches. They also solicit and recognize cachers who’ve been involved in this effort.
This might be a model for WGA to consider (now that the new website is all designed!)

I think I may have voted for COTM once, but I cannot see voting for caches we have not done. We have not had (or made) the opportunity to hunt caches in SE WI, and we’ve only done a few in the Madison area.
I’ve suggested before… how about doing something regional on occasion? The voting response from those of us upstate may increase if we are able to choose from a plate of caches from our own area. And by watching the logs, I know that many of the metro folks who are active on these message boards do hunt caches in other parts of WI, and are probably familiar with a lot of pretty cool caches up nort’ here.
Dividing up regions could be pretty easy – like north of Hwy 29 and east of Hwy 51/39; or between Hwy 21 & 29 and Hwy 41 & 13; or something similar. A little time with a state highway map would be all it would take…

Will these ammo sub-assembly cans hold a typical small spiral log book?
I have no problem with any of the answers provided by Grousetails. I am not interested in trying to micro manage the affairs of WGA, and very much appreciate the efforts and integrity of those we elect to Board positions. We choose to affiliate with the WGA, we cast votes for the Board, let’s allow them to function as our Board and make the decisions needed to run WGA.
And if one or all of the Board end up with one of these coins, I think it’s a pretty small token of appreciation. I really like the coins I bought, and if the WGA made a little profit on them, great. I feel confident that the few funds available in the WGA coffers are being well guarded and well spent.
Thanks, Board members, I appreciate all you do.

Thanks for another link. I teach kids about Internet safety in school, and will use this as another resource. This is very important knowledge for all parents to have and share with their children.

You know, this thread is an example of why I rarely look at any of the forumns on geocaching.com… Let’s try to not stoop to that level of continual bashing.
I’ll say “amen” to the Green Bay Paddlers’ notes.

“That makes me sad. I liked Buxley’s maps. I don’t like the GC.com maps much.
I really liked going to the world view of the Buxley’s maps then checking out what was in different countries! So neat!”Not to mention how these maps helped us identify caches up in Ontario, Canada. Their postal codes were somewhat difficult to navigate and search from, but Buxley’s maps pinned down the few caches in that rather remote region of the world. Hope something similar gets created…

Oshkosh & Waupaca Fleet Farm had no ammo boxes left last Friday. But Oshkosh had a whole pallet full of HUGE ammo boxes – approx 18″ tall x 18″ deep x 8″ thick. I think they told me the price was $8.50 apiece.
Like Mark, I wondered where I could hide one of these!

My definition of winter friendly is the cache itself (and if a multi, all clues, too) is well up off the ground, and the area is accessible by hiking, skiing, or snowshoeing.
All 3 of ours in the Waupaca area meet this definition.
Not much caching activity has been going on. Certainly the hecticness of the holidays is partially the reason. But there are some very nice pleasant winter days coming yet, and cache hunting does not have to stop just because there is snow on the ground!
Here’s our wish for a blessed Christmas – ours will be terrific with family gatherings. Hope your will also be great!

Our ‘Jones Springs Cache’ (GCK3GQ) in the Lakewood / Townsend area of Oconto County is in a great cross country skiing area. While not all of the 11 miles of looped hiking trails are groomed for skiing, most are.
This 4-step multi-cache has logbooks at each step, each of which may be logged as a find.
If you are a skier, give it a try!

This article was in tonight’s ‘Appleton Post Crescent’, too.
