I ordered 2 coins, which are very nice and well appreciated – thanks to all who labored long and hard on this project! One will be a Christmas present for one of the grandkids / caching partner, and the other a stocking stuffer for my sweetie / caching partner.
I doubt that either will ever be circulated, but will stay home with a few of the special caching momento’s. Plain ole TB’s disappear way too quick, I can’t imagine one of these coins would last too long…

We work with a couple of youth camps during the summer. A long time ago, a dad asked his little girl in jest if she was sitting on Grandpa’s lap at a campfire. From there, the nicknames stuck, and grew. When we learned about GeoCaching through these same camps, our handle was a natural. Since, we’ve showed dozens of kids how to cache hunt, and our ‘grandkids’ enjoy this activity with us.
We look forward to the day our own two grown kids marry and give us real grandchildren.

Wow, another one who hit a milepost while we were along. Congrads, and we’re glad we had a chance to meet and cache with ya!
Jim & Chris
Modest as they are, Jim & Kathy didn’t even tell us they hit 1000. Glad we finally met and were able to pass this milepost with ya!

We also cached around the Flowage last weekend at Fu’s and Dan’s event. We bumped into a State Trooper and Park Ranger and talked about the drawdown. We were told that the mud flats around the edges were at least knee deep, if not more, and were advised not to try walking out. We also told them about GeoCaching, and invited them to go with us for the next cache, but they declined. In fact, they seemed to think we were kinda nuts!

We’d echo the Astro D comment – a hearty THANK YOU to Dan & Ann for a job well done. We’ve never hosted a caching event, but have organized many other events and understand how much work it really is. Placing and documenting a bunch of caches is a big job, and these were terrific – accurate, challenging, in a variety of locations and terrain, and interspersed with permanent caches.
Yes it did rain, nice and steady. We are dry now, but all of our gear isn’t! But a great weekend, new friends, and lots of neat caches has left us with warm memories.
Thanks again.

Grandma & Grandpa &
tired old Ginger the GeoDogSounds like fun. We are actually heading north to the Sylvania Wilderness Area, just into Michigan a little west of Hwy 45 that weekend, with our canoes and a kayak or 2. We’ve done the same weekend twice before. 75* days, peak of the fall colors, and swimming last year, snowball fights and <20* overnight the year before!
Spring & fall paddling ya gotta be ready for about anything, but it’s still a nice time of year to be outside.
Grandpa & paddling friends
Gram had a bad reaction to a bee sting this summer (while I was up north with the canoe). Never had a problem before. Now we carry epi pens and are pretty careful.
I DO NOT like snakes. Not a rational or irrational fear, I just do not like ’em.

We have picked up a few tag-less TB’s while on vacations, and hauled them far away, only to discover we goofed up the mission posted on the website. Im one case, we brought one up from Florida and found out it had been within a hundred miles of its goal. The owner was gracious, and thought maybe another 1400+ miles might be ok anyway!
Replacement tags are appreciated, but should credit the owner, not the nice GeoCacher who fixed it up. Emailing the owner is an easy way to get the thank you and pat on the back, if that’s the goal.

There are several caches which we have been to many times. Some are convenient, some are really neat, but all of the repeated ones are because we have rookies with us. We’ve always posted a note on subsequent visits, just to let the owners know somebody has found their cache, and also to give the rookies something to look at on the cache page. Kids, especially, like to see their exploits on the webpage! (First names only, nothing which will identify specific kids.)

The most recent cache we submitted for approval did not go as smoothly as the first two. Issues were raised which we needed to address, and we needed to make some changes to our cache. Throughout it all, we were treated courteously and fairly, even when we had some minor disagreements with the decisions. The overall approval took longer than we expected, but we now understand the magnitude of caches which need to be looked at in detail to manage what we do for fun.
This process brought us a bit of insight to the workload the approvers face all year round. We very much appreciate their efforts to keep our sport high quality and well respected, and support their work. Thanks.
We have completed the cache in question in this thread. Frankly, we were surprised at the methods used, as it was something very unusual in our caching experiences. Gram & I discussed it at length. We understand where some might not appreciate the approach used, and criticism could result. Perhaps a minor remodeling of this cache should be considered.
And to Sweetlife, the owners, thank you for all the caches you have put out up north. Your caches have made a lot of fun memories for a lot of people.
Thanks for listening.

Waupaca & Townsend (up north)09/01/2005 at 1:44 am in reply to: Cache Event – Way up Nord Fall Campout Bash ‘n’ Cache #1738405Gram says yup, we are coming. We’ll have a tent, so we can bring the little car. We’d need the truck to pull the camper, and we just can’t do it at over $3.00 per gallon and about 15 mpg.
Ginger the GeoDog is our 14 year old 20 pound small dog. Quite quiet and docile, very friendly. She likes to sleep in the shade when not doing 1 / 1 geocaches with us!
Can we bring her?
Thanks.
We’re lookin’ forward to this. We have not been to an event since the campout at Hartman Creek in Waupaca a couple of summers ago.

We like cache hunting, and introducing newcomers (especially kids) to geocaching. We watch our count, but the numbers are not the object. Some caches which are convenient or really cool we’ve been to several times.
But a new find is a find, regardless of where it occurs. Every temp found at an event is worthy of being included in the count, if the finder wishes.
Our $0.02 worth. Thanks for listening.

We don’t collect cards.
We don’t have a card.
We don’t view them as clutter.
We do enjoy looking at them when conditions permit.
Maybe we oughta have some printed and start collecting, eh?Grandma & Grandpa
