Michigan is #2 for out-of-state caching finds, our son and daughter-in-law live in da U.P. and our daughter lived there for a year. We’ve cached the Marquette County area often. The Minneapolis metro area is home for our daughter now, so MN is our #3 state with about half as many finds as #2.

I won’t avoid caching or logging or post notes to change later just because of the cute little artwork thing. If they appear that’s fine. If they don’t, that’s also OK. I just logged two finds from a week ago, so I checked. Yup, I got a couple. Hurray…

We certainly will go after some caches in August, but not with the goal of getting one every day. Been there, done that, even without the worthy cute little prize posted someplace on our profile. We still have not gotten them for some other places we’ve found caches, and we’re not too upset. It’s just not a big deal in our minds – kinda fun to look at occasionally, but not very often. And certainly nobody else gives a hoot how many we have!

The Well-Travelled and Aged Cacher Challenge: WA
A cache by Grahame Cookie
The Waupaca Library has another of the recently published mysteries based on the theme of Geocaching. “Coordinates For Murder” by Darren Kirby, will be available to anybody with an account in the OWLS Library System. It will be back to the Waupaca Library tomorrow.
So Rod, we’ll see how long it takes to get up to Oconto…

A 16′ Old Town Penobscot is a nice boat – we had one for quite a few years. We paddled it on several week-long jaunts to Ely, MN, Ontario, and da U.P. I sold it only to upgrade to a kevlar canoe, which is much nicer to portage! Big weight difference between kevlar and Royalex.
Somebody will be very happy with this canoe.
BTW, we have no affiliation with this sale!

Good to hear from you! Menomonie was a great place for Gram and me to live for 4 years of our lives. We enjoyed our time there, and look forward to hearing all about the neat caches you find. Lotsa friendly folks around the WGA, you’ll enjoy your time here as well.

Thanks, gkrone. The interface cable you show looks like the one I have. But by the sounds of it, I think I’ll try to go with the usb-serial adapter to add to my cable, rather than start over with an actual usb cable for my Legend.
I appreciate all of your comments and experiences, friends. I had to get out the old Legend we’ve had since starting geocaching. The last several years I’ve had access to a GPSr from work that has a few more features. But that is not available any more, so we move forward by going back to the beginning with technology!

First to Find: A Novel is now owned by the Waupaca Public Library, and is available for checkout by anybody with an OWLS account (OWLSnet is a consortium of public libraries in northeast Wisconsin).
That is, it will be available as soon as I finish reading it and turn it back in. Second time I’ve had a FTF of a library book, the first was Cached Out a short while ago. BTW, that’s a pretty good book. I requested purchase of several mysteries based on caching as additions to the library collection, the request was approved, the books are being processed for circulation. I’ll pick up First to Find after work today.
The Waupaca Library has been very supportive of geocaching. In fact, we have a multi cache that starts there ( GC1XQZN ). Thanks to Peg B., the Library Director, for her help with that cache and for bringing in books of interest to us.

This is an older one that does not work with the standard usb cables. It has a flat 4-contact plug about 1/2″ wide with a small locator prong. The GPS works good, but we’d like to download coordinates sometimes rather than manually programming.
Boy, I thought we’d been all over the state and done / seen lotsa cool things… we have, but we can only tally a dozen from this list. Gram, pack the bags, it’s time to go traveling!

The State of Arkansas has a very nice state park series. We did a few when we visited down there a couple of years ago. The parks personel were all well versed and helpful. Some (perhaps all?) started at the Ranger station and branched out from there. Further info can be seen at this cache listing:

It would be wonderful if Wisconsin could get on board and do something similar. Thanks for bringing this back to the forefront!

Other than REALLY trying to fill in blank dates on the calendar in December and January (which we did), we have mostly cached in spurts. It felt good to ignore the calendar in February and just do a few when we felt like it. Maybe we’ll black out all 366 days in 2014… or 15… Our average has been just a bit over a hundred finds a year since starting. We usually cache when we are on vacation or going someplace new, but not too often have we traveled just to cache. A few times, yes, but more likely to just take a small detour while on the road to/from someplace. But I do see a few dedicated caching road trips in our future, as long as there are also quilt shops worthy of visiting!
Could we quit? Yup. Do we want to? Nope.

Thank you to all who were involved in the election process for the Board. We enjoyed reading all of the thoughtful questions posted, and the many, many responses really helped to get to know the viewpoints of the candidates. Often I thought about the time committment just keeping up with that. Your dedication to the task has already been impressive, and we are confident it will continue throughout the term in office.
The WGA is in good hands. We are pleased to be affiliated with this fine organization and wish the best to all who ran for the Board positions. Thanks.
