Hello!
For me, its natural and depends on the task. If I know the website is having problems, I am going to ask someone who knows what they are doing with it to look at it. If its something with the newsletter which I previously helped with, I am happy to take a look at it. It goes to play with everyone strengths as well as availability.
Hello!
My personal goal right now, is the Wisconsin counties. After that, I will be hitting the Delorme challenge. I know a lot of people choose to do these together but I love traveling so I am always looking for an excuse to go for a drive. I would also like to take a stab at the D/T grid and see what I can do with that but that is minor.
As far as the board goes, I would like to see about starting some new state wide achievements. We have the IAT which is AWESOME in my opinion. I understand they are a lot of work and I respect that. I would like to see more of those come up.
Everyone has already stated everything I would have responded. The only thing I have to put it honestly…if the majority is against you, get over it. Everyone was able to voice their opinions. All are valid. But where ever the majority fell, that’s it. Deal with it. Thanks!
In my work, its a domino pattern. Its hard for me to do my job if the person before me hasn’t done theirs. There is a good amount of accountability as well as effective communication if there are problems. I believe this did before and continue to prepare me for the BOD.
I want to drive because I get car sick if I don’t. Otherwise, if I have my Dramamine, I am good with whatever seat I am put in so long as the Driver and Copilot remember that bathrooms and food exist.
Everyone always has a worry that they could not be good enough at something. If something comes up or there are questions, it is always best to keep people informed. This has helped me with my last term on the board when I was having some medical issues. There is flexibility with it but still give it the best that you possibly can!
I loved committees for the sake of delegation. Not all 9 people of the board need to be focusing on all topics. Some people may be more versed in newsletter where as others strengths are to creating new activities or caches for an event. Its all in working together and relying on each other to get things done.
In my experience, the board did a fair amount of the work. However, I always liked reaching out to the local geocachers of the chosen areas to see if there is another location that maybe we didn’t know about. It helps that the board is well versed with locations usually across the state so the option to ask local cachers is pretty easy.
While Facebook is a good tool, we also have to keep in mind that not everyone has access to the fast enough internet speeds to accommodate. As someone who lives in the north, I know there are still several geocachers and people in general who still frequent the site over Facebook. The BOD currently has a few IT savvy folks that have been working on various ideas to keep promoting geocaching as we can.
As far as the website goes, as a current BOD, I can assure this issue is a hot topic and is being discussed frequently. I agree that goals would be nice however in the current times, flexibility and adapting is going to be key. To build off of Lacknothing, it is what the membership wants and it is also what is going to be safe for everyone. Do we want the idea of someone getting sick at our events on our minds in a legality sense? Could we live with that? In an age of sueing, could we afford that…Not saying anyone would but we have to consider the What Ifs.
As I have dietary restrictions, I have to ask the contents of what I am eating…that being said I do prefer sweets.
It never hurts to ask questions to clarify anything. Especially when you don’t understand or maybe even don’t agree. The best thing you can do is keep an open mind, express your opinion and still be “man” enough to move on and support whatever the decision is. And in my case, hope it doesn’t give you an allergic reaction. XD
Communication and thoughtfulness is going to be key in a situation like this. I agree with all here as communicating with the disgruntled geocacher first. I agree it could be an inside joke however, internet trolling is never ok in any situation on any site. In cases like Facebook, it leads to the post being removed. If things are not remedied and the cacher chooses not to edit his/her logs, a removal of the log may be needed.
I agree with all that social media has been the backbone of our most recent communications with members. I would like to see the BOD utilize more of the email as we do still have several members in the Great Northern part of Wisconsin that still utilize email since high speed internet may not be an option where we are located. This makes things like Facebook a bit more limited. I would also like to see more virtual events held for the time being as in person events are going to be difficult to ensure everyone’s safety at until things settle down.
Unfortunately, I do not believe we will ever fully get back to “normal”. I believe we are going through a historic change and there will be a new “normal” that will be settled into. That being said, I wish we could meet in person for the annual BOD meeting however, so many places that could be reserved are either not taking reservations or have so many restrictions that the BOD wouldn’t be able to meet. Thankfully, the WGA is taking to embracing technology and are taking the appropriate measures to ensure that the WGA will continue to be the purveyors of fine Tupperware as they always have been.
It would be very odd for 9 people to agree all the time. It is hard enough for two people to agree all the time. The best you can do is listen, voice your opinion and then respect and support the majority decision as best you can even though it isn’t what you wanted.
As disagreements happen, they are a fact of life. Whether it is work or personal related. The best you can do voice your concerns clearly but then respect the decision that is given. As my son is learning, throwing hissy fits is not going to get you anywhere.
