  • I am not sure what else I can say that hasn’t already been said. The WGA does sponsor several member CITO events. To have the WGA go back to a sanctioned event…I would be afraid of drawing people away from the member events given that the goal of CITO is to clean up the environment. I am in no way opposed to it. But I feel the WGA does a great job in assisting and supporting these events currently.

in reply to: Candidate Question: Update WGA State Park series? #2067670

There are so many great state parks but why limit ourselves there? As stated by others, the Ice Age trail, the state and national forests, there are so many others great features to our state that we can highlight. Some of the state park caches do need to be altered due to certain changes but I think being that there are still many cachers going for this series, that there are so many other options to explore.

I believe my time on the board was brief and there is more that I can do and would like to be a part of. Whether that is more virtual events, more Geo 101s for the new cachers or revamping the logo. There is a lot more that can be done and it is what you make it.

I agree with all that WGA promotion to new geocachers is on the top of the list. I also believe in this day and age of COVID, virtual events give the opportunity for cachers to chat when physical events are not possible. I believe no one is perfect, but the WGA is doing what they can to adapt to the times.

On any given day, my answer will always change but I will always answer it with a question. How much time do I have? Given that my husband is a muggle and typically tags along while I geocache, this is always a question when he asks if I would like to go caching today. Do we have plans going somewhere where a traditional will provide the most timeliness? Do we have nothing going on where I can plan an excursion for the Lonely Cache Game? How cold is it outside (more often than not, this is a valid point in Wisconsin)?

If time is not the issue, I prefer a unique cache; whether that is a mystery, multi, earth, so be it. I have not been one for numbers as I prefer the uniqueness of a location and/or challenge of the cache. I am more interested in the story shaping than the number of traditionals I have. Currently I am working on my WI county map. I have been making a point to get caches that are on less traveled roads. As a photographer, this has led to some amazing views and areas of Wisconsin.

in reply to: Candidate Question | Characteristics #2067666

In this day and age: Flexibility. This past year has shown us that being flexible in the decisions put forth will shape the group for the days/months to come. So much is uncertain, but one thing has been clear, that the WGA will continue to do what they can to promote geocaching in the safest ways possible.

Of course, there are several other characteristics needed.  Good communications, creativity, people skills, etc. However, a love for geocaching and a willingness to help others enjoy this hobby/sport as much as you do is also key.

A little I suppose. But I also look at it as someone who has the experience to maybe teach the newbies a trick or two. The veterans of the game always have some fabulous stories to tell! I have also discovered that most veteran cachers are not opposed to accompanying the newbies to some they may have already found as a way to help out on a particularly hard find.

Currently I am not involved heavily in other organizations. I can’t wait to dedicate my time to an organization I believe is making a difference in geocaching. It will be fun to work with other people to help promote the outdoors in this fabulous state we live in.

To me, I love the idea of being able to introduce people to geocaching. I love the spark that someone gets when they successfully find their first cache or solve their first mystery. All of the sudden they are hooked and have so many questions! It is also great to see someone who has been doing it for years still have that same spark. It is very inspiring for me to be apart of keeping that spark alive!

I have tried for the board twice before and have not been unfortunately successful. I think I could bring a lot of great assets to the board. I have some great thoughts for updating the website and getting kids more involved in geocaching! I think the WGA is a great organization and I hope I can add to it with my own experience!

For me it depends on the day. Sometimes I like just an easy park and grab so more focus can be on the location. If I have more time, I like going for the harder terrain, hiking all over and getting lost. Anyway you do it, it always makes for a fabulous story at the end!

I have fallen out of interest once or twice at the beginning. But every time I come back ready to go more than ever. Events are a fantastic way to get motivated again. As well as come up with some fun ways to get back into it like meeting up with some with friends or attending another event elsewhere to meet some new people! Sometimes all you need is a change of scenery. What types of caches did they go for before that bored them? Or was it the people? Recommend some polar opposite caches and see what happens! There is such a variety out there! Something has got to peak their interest again!
