“Beauty is in the eye of the beholder” – Margaret Wolfe Hungerford (or in this case QUALITY)

My opinion of a quality cache is more of who put it out. Are they taking care of it? Did they put in a location that is appealing to people like us? Do they make an effort to help someone who may be struggling with finding it or solving the puzzle? Personally, I think the Cache of the Month is a wonderful and fun thing for the WGA to help promote the quality of geocaches. However, like I mentioned in another post, I think the website needs a face-lift to help better keep existing members interested in voting for them and getting involved with the process.

I think a kids club is an awesome idea. Speaking as parent of a 6 year old who has his own account, he loves it (CRB05). Some things that have helped him stay interested in the last year have been finding some creative caches, helping me prep caches to put out, going caching with friends and finding cool places. He has even gotten one of his friends his age to go with us. On the flip side, I was approached two years ago about a gentleman possibly doing a class at the Boys & Girls Club in town for kids after school to get them interested in geocaching. If we can present it as a fun way to get kids outside and doing things, they will take to it in stride. It might be an option to approach some of those organizations and see if we can generate some interest at a kid level. Then maybe they will turn around and get their parents involved also!

As much as social media has changed the face of communication, the website is still a vital part of it. Yes it is good for the information it provides but an update is always helpful. I think of my fiance’s job. He is a mechanic at a dealership in Wausau. Recently, a larger dealership down the road completely remodeled and gave their existing building a face-lift. It looks much newer and nicer than before and shows that business is good and they are doing well. Now his work has built a new shop to also give the dealership a boost and keep up their public appearance. In my opinion, the website is good however I believe a face-lift in is in order. I think changing certain layouts and adding some more options for existing members to still get something new out of it like new members would will certainly help the WGA’s image. Yes the group is doing a lot but for someone who is just perusing, the website may make it seem like it is struggling. Speaking as a graphic designer, it is not hard to make a website look new again.

in reply to: Candidate Question | What's Your D/T? #2061957

I think of myself as a mystery. Some people will think I am easy to talk to. Some people might think I am harder to talk to. Personally I try to be as easy to approach and helpful; but I am not afraid to have a hard conversation either. As a parent, those happen a lot more often than people like to admit.

I identify the most with words. I am an avid reader and do a bit of my own writing (mostly fiction). I am not the best at being grammatically correct in my writing but that’s why there are resources out there to fix it for you. Second would be pictures. I am a photographer by night. I do love talking to people and getting to know them. Its a fun time to figure out what makes them click and get up in the morning. I use an awful lot of numbers at my job as of course they are important. I was good at math in high school taking Calculus but I don’t think I have used much of it since then.

Although in my opinion, you can’t have one of these without the other. Even in writing, you have numbers for pages. You have people to read; whether its editing or someone bought it at a garage sale. You have the words that paint pictures in imaginations that speak to people on a fundamental level. On the flip side if you have people, of course you will have words to speak, ages or phone numbers, and so many pictures taken to capture memories had!

In my experience, the best leaders are the ones who have been through the process of following and know what goes on in the ranks below them. When they achieve a leadership position, they have a better understanding of what needs to be done to help those they are leading; to help them succeed which helps the leader succeed.

in reply to: Candidate Question – Adaptation #2057623

There have been many changes in my life in the last year or so, both personal and in my professional life. In the cases when you think it can’t get any worse, you have to learn to adapt and make the best out of the situation. I feel I have learned to adapt well to my new lifestyle (medically took a while) but in the end, it helped me grown into the person I am today. I feel now that really I can handle any changes thrown my way.

in reply to: Would you turn away help? #2057512

Why turn away free help? There of course certain rules that need to be followed especially when it comes to money handling and food safety. But there is always a place for someone. It might take a few moments to decide where it would be most beneficial to place everyone but if the end result is everyone providing the best experience or assistance they can, then do it.

I am a graphic designer and photographer so I am fairly tech savy. My dad is a techy guy so I know enough to fix computers and can usual help in sound or presentation issues. I am fairly comfortable with both Windows and Apple OS.

A few people have asked me about this very thing about the website. Perhaps updating the website would help? If it is already a work in progress, we will see what the new BOD offers.

in reply to: CITO and service projects #2057464

Seeing as how we are there anyway caching, why does it need to be event specific? I believe in CITO even if you are by yourself. However, the city where I live does a clean up every so often. I believe the WGA should do some sort of CITO event perhaps in the afternoon of the Pancake breakfest seeing as we are there already. I agree that this would be a great topic to discuss for the BOD.

I like to think of myself as a falcon. Capable of working with others as a team (humans) but also able to work on its own. It has the ability to see things in other perspectives that others might not be able to see.

Until recently, I have been more of a finder. However, I am trying my own on hiding. I am only up to 8 hides but I have started on placing a new series. I have gotten good feedback so far on it. Next step is expanding it.
