My biggest strength would be the logical thinking. Making sure whatever the task, we can manage it and have everyone working together. My biggest weakness would be if there was a fight or disagreement, picking a side. Everyone is entitled to their opinion but there needs to be compromise.

While P and G serves there purpose of a quick grab when traveling, my family and I prefer the hiking. I agree with the early statement of quality versus quantity. Most of my memorable caches have not necessarily been about the cache itself but more the journey getting there and back. The first one that comes to mind is one where we hiked for a mile and a half into the woods. Once we started getting closer, we discovered a hidden lake we had no idea was there. After we found the cache, we enjoyed exploring the banks and swimming a bit. I think it would help if there was a way to promote those types of caches other than Cache of the Month. Also, maintenance is a big issue as some of those caches don’t get found on a semi daily basis.

in reply to: CANDIDATE QUESTION 2018| HOW WILL YOU HANDLE THIS? #2057457

It will be once in a blue moon that all 9 people’s opinion would be the same. When someone disagrees with you, its not the time to throw a hissy fit. It’s time to be supportive and respectful that its about the common goal being accomplished and how you do what you can to help.

Dishwashers make everything easier. It still needs to be done though and someone has to do it. If I am more than willing to volunteer my time for this and get it done then I will. And make sure everyone still has fun in the process.

I’m not sure I know anyone who really enjoys public speaking. Some are more comfortable than others of course. However, as with anything else, it helps to be prepared. As a board member, you know what is required, you know what your topic is to speak on. So let’s get it done and step up.

Now that I have started doing photography on the side for certain things, I have discovered that people have some crazy expectations of next day delivery. I have been able to deliver on a few days but I usually have to sit them down and explain the process and say this is the soonest I can have them done. I have discovered it helps emmensly to sit them down and show them why it takes as long is it does. Usually that solves the issue and allow me more time. Others of course still want it sooner but at least they understand.

I found my first cache when I was a kid and my dad introduced me to it. I rediscovered it in college when a friend was all excited about it. I said I knew about it. Low and behold we went caching during our lunch. That was spring 2013. My found number is only at 659 but I have found some crazy unique caches and loved everyone of them

I have attend a few of the WGA Lonely Cache Game events. Last spring was the first time I was able to attend the Spring Camp Out at Eau Plaine County Park and also the Pancake Breakfest. Which was a complete blast meeting people from around the state and a few outside.

My favorite cache or series to date is still the Montreal Mine series outside of Hurley. I loved that driving by you never would know the old mining structures exist. It was so fun!

in reply to: Candidate Question – Experience #2057454

I have not been directly involved with a BOD before but I have been doing graphic design and photography for several organizations the last couple years. I have been involved with helping plan social events for a band I do work for. I look forward to gaining experience in a new aspect.

I believe the board member should represent WGA well regardless of the event. They should be able to not only answer questions but be able to assist anyone who needs help; as well as give a few pointers on different ways to be involved with geocaching and WGA. They should also be able to show just how much fun geocaching can be.

Attributes: (this is a fun one)

Recommended for Kids: Being a mom, it helps to have caches that are good for kids. My three year old absolutely loves caching but they have to be ones that don’t require a lot of bushwhacking. He isn’t real good at walking in the woods yet.

Boat: Who doesn’t enjoy a good kayak or boat ride in the summer!

Dog: I always take the geodog with me. There have been many hikes that he has loved running through the woods. On one particular power trail we were working on, he actually ran by and hit one of the caches with is foot, helping us find it.

Campfire: Good way to relax after a day of geocaching.

Scenic View: I always love a good view for some fall colors or river. One of the best view I have seen was up in Montreal Mine series. One cache was placed on top of a rather large hill to climb, but it gave an excellent view of Lake Superior and surrounding land.

Well, for starters, you can’t think on an empty stomach. Best bring some snacks for a little bit of a jump start! Staying organized is one main key. It helps for everyone to be on the same page, have all the information, and have each person know what they need to do for the group to be successful. Keeping focus in the meeting is another. There is a time for play, but there is also a time to problem solve and deal with issues at hand. We just need to keep in mind who we are doing this for and that is for geocachers everywhere.

    Technology

In this day and age, it is important to keep up to date with technology. Everything changes so fast now a days. There are new gadgets and gizmos coming out almost weekly. It is good to know what could be used for geocaching or otherwise. Would it be helpful for someone to know if some of the new fit watches also had a compass in it? Would anyone also like a few tips and tricks on GSAK? It is hard but keeping up to date could help the WGA be able to help other fellow geocachers.

What’s the geo code? It looks there a bunch over there. Thank you! 😀

I have only found 3 of them. I found the Lake Wissota one at Zuma’s Birthday bash, I found the Rib Mountain one when hiking with a friend who wanted to get into geocaching. And I was 1st to find the Council Grounds as it is about 2 miles from where I live. All of them were found before I realized it was an actual series for all state parks in Wisconsin. My mom had sent me a news article that this series was going to be a thing, so I decided to check it out. My fiance and I are planning some trips this summer to visit more of the parks. I can’t wait!
