yes we should make a coin, and for those who have not yet noticed, the geocoinfest this year is in nearby Minneapolis in September.
Good news travels fast, Minneapolis will be much closer to drive than Salt Lake City was for me this past weekend for geocoinfest.
My first car was a 1972 Chevy Vega 2300, 2 speed automatic on the floor, green and rust, air conditioning (rust hole in the floorboard that let air in while you drove it), hatchback that opened maybe twice in the several years I had the car, passenger door that opened on its own while turning even though the door was locked, and it burned enough oil while at highway speed to make a James Bond smokescreen look lame, such memories reading all the first car stories on here. My current car is a 2003 Vibe and has been the most reliable vehicle I’ve ever owned, already up to 167,000 in 6 yrs without major problems.

. And now for my worst injury since geocaching but not geocaching related was a motorcycle accident and getting my leg broken in two places plates and screws in my leg that happened on Thursday evening just before I was planning on heading to TN for all the Geowoodstock festivities. I’ll be out of work for several weeks at least, depending what my doctor says about working as a youth counselor. For a while I guess I get to read all the posts of everyone else having fun.
That sounds alltogether too familiar. Two years ago, I broke my leg just 11 days before a planned GW V trip. I wish you a very speedy recovery. Remember, geocaching can be rationalized as “rehab activity”.
Now I’ll just have to convinve my physical therapist of this viewpoint.
We attended the Bridgeport CT hosting of the GPS maze exhibit, it is very family friendly even for little ones and took us a couple of hours just in the GPS part of the museum. Be sure to ask if they have location specific geocoins with signal on them, I bought one in CT for around $10.
The worst geocaching accident I had was in Texas last summer geocaching with my parents and my daughter Emily , we were seeking “Emily’s birthday cache” and there was a small amount of barbed wire which I tried to jump over which caught the back of my leg and I ended up going to urgent care and getting a tetanus shot also. I’ve been questioned by the police many times, one of my favorites was at Geocoinfest in Temecula CA under a train caboose with four or five other cachers just after dark searching for a nano. The officer drove by at first slowly then came speeding across the field with lights flashing coming toward the caboose. The officers didn’t know about geocaching which I thought was funny that a small town would host a large event and the authorities had no clue what it was all about. Another strange geocaching experience was that same night in Temecula with an older woman in an early 70’s Buick trying to run us off the road several times, we ended up driving over a curb and getting on the Interstate for a few exits to lose her. congrats
This will be our third year attending MOGA and it is very kid friendly, Emily started going with me the two years ago at age four. We just don’t do the competition aspect of it. If anyone has specific questions about attending feel free to email me directly at [email protected].
I’ve been to the past two Geowoodstocks and last years MWGB and am planning on doing both again this year. The Geowoodstocks are way more organized and have lots more people in attendance. I’ve also attended the last three geocoinfests and there is a different crowd that follows each of the types of events. This year’s geocoinfest will be in Salt Lake City in October over Columbus day weekend.
we’ll be down in TN for the event
One of my goals is to reach Alaska for my final state to have geocached in. I’m also working on another goal of attending a geocaching event in each of the 50 states which obviously will take many years to achieve. I don’t set numbers goals for myself, If I have a chance to get out and do some caching I do what is fun and skip the rest.
Thanks for the recommendations, I did ride a few miles on the green circle trail, found a couple micros near my hotel and tried the Brewery cache which we couldn’t find logical parking for the final but the marker was pretty cool anyway. I’d like to come back to this area with more time to explore the trails and caches.
I’ve logged 171 DNF’s over time, I log a DNF if I’ve been able to give the area a good search, I usually post a note if I had to leave due to muggles or other non cache specific reasons. As a cache owner with multiple hides it is nice to have DNF’s posted and I can get out and work on a hide if needed instead of it just not being found for a while and I check on it and it is gone with no DNF’s posted and cachers finding all my other ones in my area over and over. I find it funny that experienced cachers would not post a DNF. I could understand if newbies are the ones and are not so sure of the game.
We’ll be going to Indiana as well, Also I just drove on the Skyway bridge on our way back from Connecticut this weekend and it was open. ???
The geocaching Vibe is now at 139,000 and we’ll be heading to Connecticut in it next week.
