LOL – If you look at the majority of my posts and retorts, I think the term “anal” will fit my personality perfectly!
I would definitely use it here!
Keep smiling!
Jeff
Careful folks – there are always two sides to every story. Before we start throwing around words like “anal” let’s make sure we get all the facts first. This could be a simple programming issue, a two-way dispute, or perhaps a complete misunderstanding.
I would fully recommend that the WGA observe from the sideline on this one…
It’s a bit out of the way – but the Highway 45 Wayside Series is a great cache series… lot’s of fun…
ENJOY!
Jeff
Dug up this thread instead of starting a new one.
Every month, Backpacker Magazine publishes a series of trail maps from around the United States. Each map contains UTM GPS coordinates for various waypoints around the hike.
We were happy to see that this month’s issue features “Hartman Creek State Park.” They have published a 3.9 mile trail that loops around the various lakes. These trails contained the majority of the caches during the campout this year!
Good stuff… glad to see that Backpacker remains GPS friendly! A great read….
“Really I’m not Lost” brings up a GREAT point. There are MANY caches that are a heck of a lot easier in the winter. “The Legend of Navarino Bob” is definitely one of them. We did that last year with “What’s Next?” and found that we were able to walk on water! LOL
Definitely a policy that Amy and I can live with. Good stuff – Thanks Brian and Ken!
Veni, vidi, sivi!
Congrats Mark!
Now that hunting season is coming up I thought I would dig out this thread…
I have a ground blind that I deer hunt from. I bought a large size ammo box to keep out in the blind during the season. I can keep my antlers, grunt call, a couple granola bars, a book (if the hunting is slow), some water, etc.. out there in the box and just leave it overnight when I’m back sleeping in camp.
Nice place to store those little hunting odds and ends during the offseason as well.
I definitely feel your pain. I’m a big train buff so we released four “railroad themed” bugs last year. It was one train. An engine, a tender, a tank car and a caboose. We labeled each one a different “express” and attached a tag to each.
“Walt Disney World Express” was intended to ride the train at Disney World in Orlando, FL. It went missing immediately after we placed it in a cache in Chicago.
However…
“Chunnel Express” wants to ride the Chunnel between England and France. It is currently on the east coast awaiting transportation to Europe.
“Disneyland Express” achieved its goal. It traveled to California and rode the train at Disneyland in Anaheim, CA. It’s on its way back to Green Bay.
“NYC Express” achieved its goal. It traveled to New York City and rode the subway. It is now in Georgia and slowly making its way back to Green Bay.
Long story short (too late)… I really got down about the first one that was lost. However, I’m pretty excited about the two that made it and the other one that is still on its way!!! Release some more!!!!
Here are some pics:

Thanks for taking care of our environment by taking this pro-active action. There are a lot of other caches that need to be retired or moved because of damage to their surroundings through trails being created, erosion, etc. but those cachers have either disappeared or simply refuse to take action.
Nice job Energy….!!!!!
Jeff
Unreal…
Yeah… I’m with the majority. We’re not able to make the picnic this year, but part of the fun of these events (from our WGA campout experience in May) is knowing that there is only a certain amount of time and that everyone is out doing the caches with you. Everyone is on the same page!
I’ll be the first person to say that I KNOW there will be people out there Friday searching for caches. It’s inevitable. It’s like putting a bottle of good vodka in front of a recovering alcoholic. It’s not a trust issue (that’s petty) it’s a fact. There are those that just won’t be able to resist the temptation to search out some caches. Yeah… some of the “holier than thou” cachers that post in this forum are bound to cry foul at that remark – but it’s reality…
Keep your topo maps, itineraries, etc… for other regular caches. Put yourselves on the same page as the avarage cacher at the picnic this weekend and relax… have fun. That’s what this is about. If you don’t get your 13,000th cache this weekend without the head start… oh well. Live with it… Lord knows there is some magnetized cache on a highway girder on the way home you can log… Take a few minutes in the morning, download the waypoints like everyone else, chat a bit, have some soda and take it easy…
I’m sure I’ll get flamed in the forums for these comments – but I’ll live!
Cache on folks – have a great time this weekend. Take few minutes to take in your surroundings…

SAVE FERRIS!
Yeah… this discussion got tedious pretty quickly…
WGA Administration – You guys do all of the work for the event – you have the right to run it in any way you see fit.
You folks have the experience in running these events and know how best to organize them…
Actually, liability doesn’t change based on the status of the organization. When an organization becomes incorporated the individual board members are no longer individually liable.
Again – there shouldn’t be anything to sweat here. Use your best judgement. Remember, there hasn’t been a successful executation of the “Dram Shop” law in Wisconsin yet. If that is still true, then geocaching liability is the least of all worries…
If you host your own event then there really is not carry-over to GEOCACHING.COM or the WGA. Do your best to avoid risk (i.e. don’t serve alcohol, etc…), use your best judgement, etc… Remember, people host family reunions and business picnics all the time at park shelters. Your homeownes’ or renters’ liability insurance should apply should any mishap occur that gets taken to that level. Wisconsin is not a “Common Law” state – but we’re pretty close.
