The larger concern in Waupaca County lately has been deer hits. They are at an all-time high. Please be careful Friday night, especially if you are driving in at dusk…

We’ve owned our pop-up for about five years and never realized that we could hook the camper up to a deep cycle battery! My gosh… we’ve now got electricity and heat (if necessary) for the weekend! More importantly, I have sleep apnea. I can now use my CPAP machine at night as well. (I won’t wake-up everyone with my snoring…)

    Life is good.

Come on guys! The food is in the lake. You catch it and then you eat it! Who needs to put it in a cooler???

Thank you, thank you! Now I can move onto the other insecurities in my life!

in reply to: GPS cables #1754586

I’m almost ashamed to say this, as I am one who likes to embrace technology. I have never downloaded cache data into my GPS from a computer before. I’ve burned SD cards with maps from the Topo software before, but I’ve never actually done a data dump with coordinates directly to my GPS…

Is there anything special I need to do to my Meridian Gold before I bring it? I’ll have the cable with me….

    Thanks!

No construction in Waupaca County. I’ve come in from Green Bay and Iola and all of those highways are in good shape.

54 is clear all the way from Green Bay.

As GrouseTails stated above, 110/10 has been done for awhile now and is a vast improvement over its prior form.

My understanding is that Hwy 21 across the state is finally completed.

If you’re coming from the southwest corner of the state, Hwy 173 through the Necedah Wildlife Refuge is a beautiful drive and hooks up with Hwy 54 in Rapids.

Hwy 22 is in good shape as well. We’ve criss-crossed that section of the state a few times.

Check this site for specific information about your particular route:
    http://www.dot.wisconsin.gov/travel/road/workzones.htm#current

The turn off of Hwy 54 west of Waupaca is clearly marked and easy to find.

My nickname in the past has been “Rand McNally”. Please feel free to drop me a line if you need directions from your particular part of the world.

    Good times!!!

I would have to respectfully disagree. I truly believe that these two categories add another dimension to geocaching. With the thousands of caches stashed all over the U.S., I worry about the number that are not maintained. Are we trashing the environment that we all love so dear? How many soaking wet tupperware containers are out in the wilderness right now, forgotten?

Personally, I would like to see the virtual caches brought back and limits on the number of physical caches that people can place. Not only would we reduce the possibility of forgotten caches, but it would inspire teams to rotate their cache allotment to new areas.

Just my two cents worth – not meant to offend anyone!

Ken – Looks like a company called “EMTAC” makes that particular model. Although, under a GOOGLE search, it looks like Garmin might have slapped their name on that model as well and marketed it with their GPS line.

    Hope this helps…

    Regarding Charcoal –

I’ve got two bags that are opened in our garage. I’m going to bring those and another large bag as well. That should be enough for a nice cookout. I might have some lighter fluid in the garage also.

We are staying in the family campground and not the group camping area. Should I hang on to the charcoal and bring it directly to the shelter on Saturday or should I drop it off at the group camping area on Friday night. Either way is fine with me…

Kind of fun that we’re getting down to the little details – we must be getting close!

FYI… Just for grins I checked the ReserveAmerica website and there are still 38 campsites in the Family Camping area that are still available.

If you were not fortunate enough to get in with the first 100 geocachers at the group site, you might consider this alternative. You will have to reserve a site at http://www.reserveamerica.com

    “GREEN BAY PADDLERS”

Quite simple actually. Amy and I love canoeing. We’ve done the Boundary Waters as a couple the last few years (we’re taking “What’s Next?” with us this year) and we love the outdoors! I’ve canoed almost 200 miles of the Wisconsin River and we’ve paddled a few other rivers in Wisconsin as well.

When Amy went to the Green Bay “Geo-Breakfast” last year she was asked if we were a member of the “Green Bay Paddlers” canoe club. We didn’t even know it existed!

Amy is the die-hard cacher in our marriage. I really enjoy it a lot but get distracted by other hobbies like fishing and canoeing(and eating!).

We love this hobby and made some great friends in the form of “What’s Next?”. We’re shocked by all the incredible places in Wisconsin (especially within 20 minutes of Green Bay) that we probably would have never found had it not been for this hobby!

See you all at the campout! (With our canoe!!!)

    Jeff
