Buy the Tie –
Competely agree. I should have clarified that I was talking about a more macro perspective, not this cache specifically. 12 visits a year is more than appropriate. I guess I was talking more about caches that get 12 visits per month.
Sorry for the confusion.
I agree with what you stated…
Cathunter – for the record – I agree with you on this. I know we haven’t always seen eye-to-eye on things. However, I believe your discussion is a good one.
I love the idea of changing out wet caches, or adopting those caches that have been placed by individuals that have been caching for a week and then fall off the face of the earth!
However, what I liked most about your comment was that we need to let nature regenerate. Too many caches that have been in place for a year or more have wear and tear on the environment around it. I would hope that geocachers are environmentalists (although I have found that many aren’t) that want to see nature areas preserved. Caches can be placed elsewhere.
True nature-lovers have a simple expression: “Leave no trace.” Unfortunately, many geocaches inadvertently leave deep scars on the earth from bushwacking and trampling.
Food for thought…
Flame away folks. I’m sure some of you are just waiting to… 🙂 LOL
I was thought of a GPSr as a relatively simple machine… until I first saw one. We were going ice fishing with some buddies many years ago. A friend had his GPSr on in the car and was rattling off the lat/lon. Then he told me how fast I was driving. It took me more than a few minutes to figure out how it was calculating speed. Unreal…
Today I feel like an idiot thinking back to that moment. Especially since I’m a teacher!
Well done – the same article was also printed in today’s Green Bay Press-Gazette. Kudos!
I just saw your post after I replied to your message. Check you messenger, I offered a few good ones in the area. In addition, there are other Green Bay area cachers with more experience caching in the area.
Good luck…
LOL – Oh my gosh yes. Even better than the Pancake Breakfast at Harman Creek! 🙂
Thanks for the kind words. We’ve VERY excited. LIFE IS GOOD!!!!
Thanks… Life is fantastic right now! We’re tickled…
Amy and I had a simple plan for our drive to Seattle and back. Pick one single geocache from each state. That’s it… It really forces you to research and find the best the state has to offer (on your route). That was fun…
A truly beautiful website!
Off topic? Perhaps a slight tangent… but still within the theme of the original post…
My take on cutting the holes in the Ammo Boxes is that I still think they will be more watertight than tupperware containers. I have yet to find a rubbermaid/tupperware container out in the wilderness that is truly waterproof.
LOL – With bomb squads going out and detonating traditional cache containers (and sending the bill to the cache owner), I don’t blame people for placing micros near urban areas.
I’m waiting for Groundspeak to require these types of “traditional” containers…
This is fantastic. Thanks for filling a needed void here. I have gone and updated our stats on the new page. Thanks again for the software…
Jeff
This program is slick. I’ve got it downloaded and I’ve messed around with it a number of times this week.
My wife and I have been caching since January of 2003, but it looks like it will be YEARS before we hit 200 caches! 🙂
