We’ve camped Buckhorn. It’s a beautiful park. You can “cart-in” to the campsites OR take a canoe by lake.
This is basically what I stated on the Geocaching.Com site:
One cache = One log
I’m not going to get caught up in what has a web page and what doesn’t. Some multi’s are allowed multiple logs, others don’t. In the end, who cares?
If you find a cache, LOG IT! If for nothing else, it’s fun to watch the alpha personalities get upset! LOL
Just put my thoughts on there on that thread. Too funny… I like watching some of these folks get themselves into a lather over something so moronic! LOL
Oh my gosh… this is the best thing Geocaching.Com has done in years!
Congratulations!

Well done!

Remember the issue of stability versus speed. I’ve got a few canoes for a variety of uses. Beautiful, light, but expensive Kevlar canoes are fantastic, but I wouldn’t dare float one in a river with a single submerged rock in it. Howvever, there are large, sturdy, “beat-em-up” canoes that I’ve almost killed myself trying to portage across miles of Boundary Waters wilderness portage trails…
Heck – you wouldn’t believe the options available for canoe paddles nowadays… Single bladed, double bladed, straight shaft, bent shaft, etc… There is a lot to process.
If you’re truly looking at investing a few bucks into this venture, go to a place who knows what they’re talking about. Also, PLEASE make sure you get fitted for your paddles… I canoed 150 miles of the Wisconsin River a few years ago and had shoulder problems for a year afterwards because the paddle I used wasn’t the correct length. Have a pro measure it for you…
The Ducks Unlimited Show in Oshkosh at the end of August has a great variety of canoes/kayaks that you can try out. The reps from the various companies are there for questions. This is a nice opportunity to test drive your new ride!
Best of luck,
Your friendly Green Bay Paddler
Beast… just to clarify. Are these caches that need to be “rescued” by others? In other words, the cache owners have been contacted and they haven’t been out to fix?
If so, I can certainly try to locate a few of them this weekend…
I’m all for limiting placements to one cache a week placed during the spring/summer/fall months.
The hobby can certainly grow even with those numbers. In addition, it will encourage those to place caches during the non-peak times of year (winter).
Just my thoughts…

04/25/2006 at 3:36 am in reply to: My brush with law enforcement .. a request to properly label #1761497All caches in DuPage County, IL (right next to where I grew up) require all ammo cans to be see-through. Cache owners use a sawzall (sp?) and cut out the sides of the container. They they screw on pieces of plexiglass onto either side. I bead of silicon glue keeps it watertight. The cache containers look cool, you can see inside of them, and they’re still waterproof.
In addition, DuPage County has stickers that they administer for each cache. It’s a pretty slick system. Each cache has its own serial number courtesy of the county.
It would go a long way to ensuring the future of caching with ammo cans in this state if the WGA required similiar restrictions. Thoughts?
I’m not sure what is considered to be an “old timer” but we started caching in January ’03. However, to date we only have 151 finds. With that said though, we’ve found caches from one end of the country to the other… It’s been fun.
We still poke around a bit here and there and we still consider this a fun hobby. However, we have a lot of varying interests that take us in a variety of directions…
We’re going to try and make an event in the next year or two…
Best wishes to all.

Wow – that’s a GREAT idea…
Thanks Beast. Since the process seems to be somewhat informal, please count me in as someone who would rescue geotrash in NE Wisconsin. I’d be happy to lend a hand to the cause…
Jeff
My original question still stands. Also, I noticed during the BETA test of the new WI-GEOCACHING site that there is the possibility of adding a field regarding recovery of abandoned physical caches. Anything more on that?
