    Beast –

What are we doing as an organization to make sure that those physical caches are actually taken out of the wild so that they’re not just simply litter?

I’ve brought this up a few times in the past because I think it’s an issue we should address. Does the WGA have some sort of system for asking volunteers in an area to go out and snag archived caches from the woods?

I look at some of the geocache maps out there and worry that we are overloading our public lands with soaked caches whose owners have abandoned…

It was only a matter of time before some jerk took things to the next level. Remember when it was considered horrific to find a mini-pocket knife in a cache? I’ve cleaned a few of those out over the years. However, this new stuff is horrible.

I thought worrying about stumbling on a meth lab was bad enough. Now this…

Keep your eyes out folks. Work with the police and keep them informed about our hobby!

It was truly an honor to be part of the “B-Team” on this beta test. The new site is INCREDIBLE! I think there is something on it to keep everyone happy.

Nice job Jeremy. You’ve obviously put forth a lot of time and effort on this project!

    Best,

    Jeff

I purposely ducked out of these forums for about a year because of some flaming and obnoxious posts by certain members. In addition, we’ve avoided WGA functions because it would simply be too difficult to talk to/meet these individuals.

I’ve come back to the forums as I still consider myself a geocacher and I do like to weigh in on some of the issues in the hopes of helping shape WGA policy in future years. However, it will be quite some time until we attend our next WGA function.

Posting in forums is a lot like drinking. Things are posted in forums that would never be told to another individual in person. LOL You’ve heard of “drinking courage?” I think there is a certain element of “typing courage” by some of our cyber friends.

There is a certain protocol for posting in these forums. Some people get it. Many others don’t.

Thanks for posting this again. I just bought one of these for my Meridian!

Greenback – you are more than welcome to these forums! You’re a bit of a legend as I have been posting the greatness of your “Lord of the Rings” series for years! Amy and I have found 10 of your Illinois caches over the years.

To the WGA – please welcome this man with open arms. He truly knows of what he speaks.

To many, caching is a private hobby that best remains a simple pleasure. I have a number of friends who are active cachers, yet do not need the distraction of joining yet another club, posting to another forum, etc. Caching is something they do just a quick hobby at times to “get away from it all.”

Yeah, I don’t completely disagree with you. However, we’ve done a ton caching in some of the Forest Preserves of the Chicagoland area and have really had some challenging finds. The “Lord of the Rings” series near Orland Park is FANTASTIC. Also, any of the caches in the Palos preserves or Waterfall Glen are fantastic.

    LOL – $75? That’s a little steep…

Amy and I were camping in the Black Hills last summer on our way out to Seattle. The campground we were staying at that night had a weekly geocache on their activity sheet we got when we paid for our site. That was pretty neat. Just a simple cache, but it was fun. Oh… it was free too!

Please lock the thread. It’s gotten painfully tedious.

    Relax folks – it’s a hobby…

    Get upset at politics…

Couldn’t agree more. Nobody should be damaging any live tree or anyone’s (including the government’s) physical property without specific expressed permission.

I can’t think of any type possible logic justifying these types of actions.

Make all caches virtual – that’s my solution! (How is that for adding fuel to the fire!)
