LOL… I’m the dummy. I’ve asked to have my account pulled from the WGA forums. It’s just not worth the effort. Debates get ugly, humor is constantly misinterpreted, opinions vary, etc… I’m done with WGA functions and events. (Amy might still attend). I wish everyone the best of luck and happy caching. I’ve met a lot of great people through the WGA, but I’ve come across some very sour ones as well. Too bad… I’m sure another pancake flipper will arrive on the scene to take my place!
Be safe, be smart and keep smiling…
I think “Cashing Out” just volunteered to host an event!
The WGA is certainly growing. Hosting an event seems like it would be a lot of work. Limiting the number of cachers may be necessary. There are only “X” number of caches released for an event. You don’t want people standing in line at a cache to log (or stamp) it. There usually is some type of flyer or map too. Running off copies, dealing with crowd control, etc… It can be difficult.
This one sounds like a lot of fun but we will not be able to make it.
Good luck to all…
Wow… had a BEAUTIFUL day geocaching with my beautiful bride and our lab…
Made a loop through southern Brown/northern Calumet counties…
Farmer’s Oasis – WOW, NEAT area!!!
FJ Park – Had lunch at the Railroad Restaurant in town – GREAT food… Best day of my life!
Cliff Dweller – Cool cache… I guess I’ve just taken up rock climbing…
TeamGarmin’s Foxhole – Little concerned about the erosion here. Neat area with the Lime Kilns. I can see why the WGA chose to have their campout at this state park!
Mattie & The Preacher – Neat area…
Up or Down? – One of our new all-time favorite caches. BEAUTIFUL area and a tough hike!
Marsha Marsha Marsha – Found a new duck hunting spot. Neat nature area…
Way Morr Fun – Hit this one on the way back home. Beautiful park, GREAT clue, neat hide…
This would be a fun loop for anyone to do if you’re looking to burn about 6-7 hours (including the lunch and some sight-seeing at High Cliff) in eastern Wisconsin. Very romantic, pleasant afternoon…
Jeff
Check out the last post here…
http://wi-geocaching.com/forums/Forum8/HTML/000412.htmlLOL – I knew that name of that cache sounded familiar. I had my “Chunnel Express” TB stuck down there for a few weeks this summer.
We’re going down to Chicago in a few weeks but I don’t think we’re going to be headed that far out. If we decide to bang around that area I’ll definitely move it for ya!
Hey guys – Congrats! What a great job! Congrats also on the wedding…
Less than 7 months until the camp-out!
Jeff
You can add IL to our list….
This is our fourth trip to the Boston Metro area… unfortunately, we’re not going out there until early spring. We were out in Boston/Plymouth for a wedding in October a few years ago – unreal. Between the trees turning and the cranberry bogs ready for harvest – beautiful.
We will be rolling through NH on hwy 2 from Freeport, ME on our way to Stowe, VT. Staying at the Trapp Family Lodge… (“The hills are alive….”)
That’s a GREAT CNN story…. Good stuff…
Nothing on the website. But I did find this article from 2001…
http://www.cnn.com/2001/TECH/computing/02/01/geocaching/index.htmlAgreed 100%… Definitely an opinionated forum out there. It’s good to lock horns in order to help achieve the common good….
Uh oh… sounds like we have a few Oliver Stone’s/Michael Moore’s out there…!
LOL
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t think geocaching.com is raking in the profits. Let’s see… no advertising, few merchandise items, obnoxious server fees, tons of site traffic and it’s offered for free.
If their servers are being clogged by Buxley’s pinging then they should have every right to cut him off…
For all the fun people get out of this hobby, kick in the $20 for the fee! The mapping software on geocaching.com is slick and easy to use. Buxley’s map can’t zoom in very far and doesn’t have nearly the amount of detail that the gc.com maps do. Plus, Buxley has too many expired and archived caches…
Come on folks… We get upset when GC.COM does something we don’t like. At the same time we get upset at people like SwissPerpetual who try to start up something new! Seems kind of hypocritical?
I don’t know gang… this looks pretty cool. Perhaps we can kill two birds with one stone and have Buxley team up with these guys and map their caches. The only issue I see is that it seems like you need to go into each specific cache log to get the location, versus some type of overview map.
Let’s keep an eye on this. The hobby needs to evolve if it’s to grow. Traditional caches are getting harder and harder to place as more and more are out there. As geocaching numbers continue to grow, the more impact there is on the environment too.
Nice job Swiss – looking forward to seeing you guys expand your take on the hobby…
Wanted to thank everyone for the kind words. Amy had to take our team across the finish line as I was involved in a event at the high school where I teach.
Of course I wanted to be there for #100, but in retrospect this was appropriate. I started caching before my wife back in January of 2003. Amy got hooked after I had found 10 or so caches.
We’ve really enjoyed all of the places we’ve visited, people we’ve met and puzzles we’ve solved over the past two years. It was nice taking the casual stroll towards 100 caches. The next hundred will probably (hopefully) take twice as long!
Favorite caches over the past 100?
The “Lord of the Rings” series in the Tinley Park forest preserves outside of Chicago for the memories.
Door County’s “Cana Island Lighthouse” for the beauty.
“Navarino Bob” for the hype and adventure!
“PC Junction” for the food!
“Glow in the Dark II” for the excitement.
“Bridge over the River Oconto” for the grandeur.
“East Shore Library” for a beautiful, unknown spot on a day when I needed to escape.
Thanks to everyone for the memories and the kind words. I think we might finally be at a point where we can place a cache or two!
