I saw Body Worlds when it was in Chicago. It was amazing, beautiful, creepy, disturbing, wonderful….a million other words. Don’t miss it! I may go see it again in Milwaukee.

There was this one part of the show which displayed an overweight woman (probably thinner than I was at the time though). It seriously looked like she was made of bacon. Right then and there I made the decision that I needed to start losing weight. So it obviously had an effect on me. And I’m not that comfortable eating bacon anymore either…

I like the idea of community service. I know it’s hard for some people to get the time to donate to others, but even a little bit of spare time given to others can benefit so much.

Things that could be fun (beside CITO and invasives removal):

Any project in a local/county/state park — they’ve got lots of trail maintenance, structure rebuilding and painting…we have a local park that was adopting out sections for people to come in and “clean up” (yes, and remove the nasty weeds).

Adopt-A-Highway litter pick up. We need to get going on this one!!

Youth groups — it would be fun to work with various youth groups to introduce geocaching, talk about Leave No Trace, and the importance of respecting your environment.

I also like Auntienae’s idea of planting trees for Arbor Day (great idea!)

I’m sorta sleepy now, so that’s all that’s off the top of my head. Might think of more later.

Every time someone submits a proposal to me, I present it to the rest of the board for their opinions.

If we come to a decision to go ahead with the proposal, we try to act on it as soon as possible. If the decision is made that the proposal will not fly, I like to get back to the proposer and let him or her know the decision. And then there are some proposal that have been tabled — giving the board time to think on the subject for a bit.

And of course, if you are wondering what the status is on any particular issue — all you have to do is ask!

I think by posting meeting minutes you will all be able to see where we are on some of the proposals.

Sorry to hear about this — I was really hoping to make it up this year. Got my fingers crossed for the future!

This one will be fun to answer:

I’d like to bring along Mom (ldybugldy), if that’s okay with you. She has some physical limitations and does get out of the house much. So I like to bring her along geocaching whenever possible. She might not be able to go on all of the caches with us, but she doesn’t mind sitting in the car either, as long as she gets to go find a few with us. Plus, not only is she my mother, she’s my best friend. And she’s lots of fun!

I am completely willing to be the driver for the day (since you’re treating for the meals!) My little Kia gets really good gas mileage!

Lunch is no problem — I’m a cheap date. I’m perfectly happy at any old place as long as I can get a little protein. If we’re near a Taco Bell, that would be great.

Usually, when I’m out caching with others, I tend to not play music and we can chat. This way I can get to know you better. But if my banter gets a little wacky and you’d like a little musical moment, feel free! I like all types of music and have a wide variety available in my car (musicals, country, metal, even still have some Christmas tunes in there yet). But feel free to bring along your own CDs if you’d like. As the passenger in my car, you actually have full control of the radio/CD player. And as an added bonus, feel free to adjust the heat to your desired comfort level.

Supper is also no worries for me. We might want to go somewhere we can rest a little though. Culver’s might be nice. Again, all I need is my protein (I usually have a hamburger patty with cheese — no bun. Yes, I’m an odd eater.) This would be another nice opportunity to chat a little more and talk about our caching day so far.

As far as the theme for the day, I would want to take you to some great areas in my neck of the woods. There would be a few caches that I really enjoyed and want to share with you. We might stop by a couple of my personal caches — there’s a couple of them that I really think a nice. But we should also go to an area that neither of us (or Mom) has been to before. There is so much joy in experiencing a new caching area with friends. We could create some great memories. Although getting a lot of caches during our day out would be nice, I think the journey that we spend together will have the most value.

    Thanks for caching with me!

in reply to: WGA Events #1883681

YES! I want to see a few more events hosted by the WGA. We tossed around the idea of a winter event in January, but unfortunately it never really got off the ground.

I’m all for smaller events like meet & greets, bowling, pizza…and even things that have a positive impact like CITO, perhaps other volunteer opportunities. Not only does it get the schmucks together, it gets the WGA name out there in the community.

At this time physical geocaches are not allowed in SNAs. There are some that probably could easily support a geocache, and others that are more fragile.

We have built a great relationship with DNR and I hope we continue to do so. Getting earthcaches back in SNAs was a major victory. Maybe one of these days they will agree to physical caches in some SNAs. As long as we continue to have a positive and open relationship with the DNR, perhaps one day, Roger, you will get your wish.

    in reply to: Time #1883676

Super easy one for me to answer:

I have nothing BUT time to devote to the WGA.

I visit the forums several times a day, trying to stay on top of what’s new and what opinions folks have.

Most weekday evenings I am at home — plenty of time to devote to whatever needs to be done.

I work about every third weekend, so even my weekends are pretty free.

I am a multi-tasker by genetics, so even when I’m doing other things, I’m usually doing something related to geocaching.

My favorite color for hiding a micro cache is olive-drab. It blends in so nicely!

My favorite color for finding a micro cache is bright metallic blue. I can spot is relatively quickly!

    😆

    Candidates,

Considering the fact that this game we play is meant to be fun, and not taken to seriously, does this election seem to be taking on a demeanor that seems far more serious than in years past?

Is all of the political BS necessary?

Most importantly; What will you do, should you make it to office, to keep politics from ruining/running our most loved pastime?

    Thank you for your time.

In the past couple years there were also questions for the candidates. Some are fun to answer, some are really tough. And I’m sure our answers do have impact on voting.

Not all members know all of us, so by answering the questions you might get a little more insight into each candidate. So yeah, perhaps the politcal BS (not the term I would use, but it’s just fun to say BS!) may be necessary.

Is it more serious than in the past? A little bit. I remember when I last ran for BOD. I think there was question as to what color I would be (if I could chose any color in the rainbow) and why. That was fun!!

To me, the WGA is about great Wisconsin geocachers, placing great Wisconsin geocaches and having a great time in Wisconsin. There is a little bit of political stuff going on in the background (DNR, county stuff, maybe someday the DOT) and it’s nice to know that there are a few people who are willing to take on a little extra responsibility to keep geocaching in Wisconsin a fun activity.

Myself, I never want to let the “business” of geocaching interefer with my love for it. If that happened, I would probably stop geocaching. I also don’t want WGA members to feel that the WGA is only about “business” and not fun. That will lose us members. I keep this in mind at all times.

Okay, go here and click on seasonal waysides. That’ll give you a big map where you can click on regions.

Interestingly, the Seasonal Site Summary gives GPS coordinates….
