The tornado hit our complex last night at around 4:40. TDSKid and I were outside when it touched down. We saw it briefly before we ran for cover. Debbie was lucky enough to be away at work. Everyone here is OK, but the property is well…
Our office and pool house are destroyed, and we have many trees uprooted. One of our buildings has a 15’x20′ hole in the rooof and side. We have yet to find the roof of our office building.
I’ll post pictures to our WGA Photo album in a bit.
Oh my! Glad to hear you are okay though. So scary!

Thought it might be an interesting way for us to meet up and chat (sort of like an un-event!).
I’m still not really sure how I feel about Second Life. It’s odd, but very pretty. Not too many people have chatted with me, so it’s also sort of lonely to see my avatar just hanging out by herself.
It sort of slows down my computer too. So the jury’s still out for me.

I love smiley faces! Thanks for sharing this!

Bought my car in March 2005. It had 14,000 miles on it. Almost 3 years later and I have about 63,000 miles. But I’d say 2/3 or more are work-related.

Wow — very cool, but it certainly reminded me how dumb I am! There’s no way I could make something that cool. In high school I made an LED Christmas tree. That’s about my level.

That was cool!!
I think men of science are awesome! (I was going to say sexy, but then thought better of it).

Are you talking about Blastomycosis?
Sounds horrible!!
Hope all you northern cachers are okay!

Okay, Bat Man aka Ken B. of Bat Conservation of Wisconsin Inc. came over to take little Bella (I changed the spelling of the name a little, as I learned that it was a she bat) to her new winter home.
He gave me the full presentation on this bat — a large brown bat — anatomy, bone structure, how they fly, all that stuff. It was really pretty cool.
Bella will go live in a cage with a few other rescue bats, where she will have food and warmth, until she is released back to the wild (I believe, in the spring.)
And yes, perhaps my trapping the bat wasn’t the smartest thing in the world (I don’t always do smart things). But my heart feels good about it.

There have been many reports of bats with rabies in Dane County. A co-worker had to go through the series of painful rabies shots just because she was sleeping in a room where a bat was found later that night. The local health department said she needed the series “in case” she was bitten, as sleeping people do not always know when then have been bitten.
Because of this I would never try to “rescue” a bat. Just MHO.That was my concern as well. The bat expert guy assured me that the bat didn’t have rabies (perhaps he could communicate with the bat, or had its medical records, or something.) He also said that due to the cold, the bat would be sort of slow moving and not actually all that responsive (sort of like sleep walking maybe).

What a scary situation! I get so mad at bad dog owners like that. I am glad that your dog fared well though — the whole situation could have gone very bad very fast.

Thanks for this!
BecIf you are really that interested in making this cache a go, just ask for permission. The worst thing that could happen is that you could be told no, and then you just look somewhere else.

In my pack, I carry the following items:
While it amy seem silly to carry the flint, it actually came in handy last time we went to Rock Island. We forgot to pack matches, lighters etc, but I just so happened to have my caching bag on me and the flint was in it. Here I thought I would actually need it.
And I saw it happen, and was quite impressed!!
