Yep.

Salt Lake City UT. I really want to cache in Utah. I think it’s beautiful. And I want to volunteer some time at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary near Kanab.

Yep, it’s coming directly from the bigwigs at Madison, and they have no interest in any sort of dialogue regarding geocaching. They don’t want it. At first it was just rest areas and waysides, but I’m afraid they’ve decided to shut out possibilities at all their properties.
I have been the point “man” on this one, and I am not getting anywhere. Perhaps an outpouring of outrage from geocachers will get somewhere….

Madison, WI 53707-7999They’ve actually updated their wording on this:
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation, for safety and operational reasons, discourages citizens from using any WisDOT site for geocaching purposes. Any “cache” found by site staff will be disposed of promptly.
Feel free to contact the WI-DOT regarding this. As I’m reading this, they’re tightening their stance, and this might even include historical markers and park & ride lots.
That is an interesting one!
Both kitties are precious! Thanks for rescuing the little ones.

pictures please!
As I understand, the brochure on gc.com is meant to be printed with “professional, business-type” printers, and not our standard home printers. I guess the set up is different or something? The geocacher-u one is more printer friendly for the masses I guess.

If you do go the film cannister route, be aware that they are not waterproof. Be prepared to replace wet logs from time to time.

It really doesn’t change much. If a reviewer notes that a cache is too close to a grave or marker, they will be asked to move it. It’s pretty much what most Wisconsin geocachers have been doing already.

I’ve been taking a look too. If someone is going to be helping out, or even making some educational contact — yay!
But, this does put me on alert for the possible flood of new, buried geocaches submitted for review following this event. Quite honestly, this happens from time to time — misinformed folks hold an event who don’t fully understand the guidelines of gc.com. Then the kids/families go home and place caches based on what they learned. Typically, it’s one cache placement, one cache disabled for guideline issues and then we hear nothing more from them.

It used to be a given that there would be troubles on weekends in the summer. Then they did something — new server? — and things were better for quite a while. Perhaps it’s time for another upgrade at the Lilypad.

17 finds for the weekend — about what I expected.

Just a thought I had — this was a Cache Ba$h. The point was to find a lot of caches for the possibility of winning prizes (more importantly, money). The name to me implies the caching and prize aspect of the event, not the socializing. People come to find caches and get raffle tickets.
(Myself, I enjoyed seeing people at the bash and having a good time. I found a few caches, but wasn’t there with any intention of finding them all or being able to win prizes — I’m just not that lucky.)
I actually saw the pre, post and pancake breakfast as more of the social opportunities. In my mind anyway, the Cache Ba$h was about the contest.
This was a very well organized and run event. I had a great time and am really looking forward to next year.
