I’ve heard about that. Sounds like it could be fun!

I was just going to give my props for Lexan as well. Tupperware came out with a bunch of Lexan products a few years back that are heatable & freezeable & you can stand on them without breaking. They come in a variety of sizes, even a smallish one (about 1 cup capacity). I think they were called Rock and Serve containers. Probably could find them on eBay for a lot cheaper.

Nope — not rich at all. Just get to take lunch at home with the doggies and eat leftovers.

You made me spit my jambalaya at the computer!! Thanks! That was very funny & made my day!

Yay! Work cooperated with me, and I don’t have to work until Sunday. See you all there!

pcfrog — just nosy….but where did you decide to stay (hotel, I mean)?

I have no idea what was set up for the event, but I am somewhat familiar with the restaurant. With the buffet setup the restaurant may (or may not?) be uncomfortable with non-paying folks in their restaurant (not that I worry about geocachers, but some restaurants folks only want paying customers around the buffet area.)
That being said, the restaurant does have a bar area too…..in the middle of the restaurant.
And thinking about it now — if I can actually stop by, I probably wouldn’t be partaking of food myself, since it might not be there until 10 or 10:30……oops forgot to add the rest of my thought here! I don’t that it’s a big deal if you don’t want to eat, but they do serve tasty food!!! Maybe a cup of coffee? Some lovely toast?
(Excuse the extra spaces now and then. My Number Two greyhound beat up my keyboard this afternoon)

Starved Rock State Park in IL has several letterboxes. They actually have a little brochure listing them. Letterboxes are tough! I found one, and it was a fun journey!
They don’t have any fees for them!

I’m still only a maybe for this event, but the prospects are slightly more positive at this point….

I can figure out everything but what C stands for……

It would be really nifty if we could get the park rangers involved in temporary hides. I bet they know some great secret spots on the island…..

Macintosh running Safari — same problem.

The loss of a pet is a sad time for everyone. Dogs are special, and one that can share geocaching with you is an even more special gift. I’m dealing with the impending loss of my number one greyhound (who liked the ride to geocaches, but not so much the hunt) to a physical malady. I’m sure Geogil and those that knew Dairy will feel the loss for some time.
Godspeed Dairy, and deepest sympathies to Geogil.

Boy — I sure sounded crabby in my last post. I’m sorry. I didn’t mean it that way. I just meant that I would prefer to spend my time enjoying the island and socializing. I get far too wrapped up in the competitiveness of stuff (including temporaries) and just need time to relax. Therefore, I don’t log temporaries anymore. Takes all the pressure off. But I have no problems with temporaries being placed.

This was frustrating to the participants and myself, who had to go “help” some stuck groups. I would probably give everybody ALL coordinates at once, and then if somebody got stuck, they could skip a cache (with a substantial penalty, of course) and move onto the next one.I would also agree with the idea that experienced cachers place 1-2 temporary caches apiece, and then we can consolidate them all onto one sheet of paper. Although this event isn’t intended to be an opportunity to make giant leaps in your cache count, if five to ten groups place 2 caches apiece (which shouldn’t be that difficult or time consuming) that could add up to quite a few caches.
I think most people want to have fun relaxing and exploring, so I am not going to worry about having too many caches.
I’m more interested in the Getaway part of this event and would not be interested in temporary caches. I still have to find the other permanent cache on the island, so this will be the only one I will be going after.
