I found that if I calibrate the compass by holding it at the angle I would hold it when walking, I don’t get the HOLD LEVEL message as often.

I got my 60CS about a month ago. I like it a lot. You can disable the compass. But accuracy seems to be pretty darn good, and battery life is amazing (mine need replacing just today.) But I don’t know much about the Explorist series.

I have a Magellan Roadmate 700. It can really only be used for navigation in terms of addresses and finding points of interest. At this point, with this unit, you cannot enter coordinates.
It’s really a nice way to have a map handy when you’re driving by yourself.
The Garmin 60CS does autorouting to caches. But I turned it off on mine.
