You can add Flushingrouse (KX9M) to the Ham list, and my son Timberdoodle (KC9ITP).

A few of us of have used 2 meter repeaters while at some of the events. Some locations have been fortunate to have repeater coverage.

I don’t usually bring the HT along, unless geocaching with a fellow ham, or unless I’m out of cell phone range.

It’s not too late to come out folks. There is a dry slot in the weather, and it looks like a few hrs of no rain. We already have about 125 brave souls that are out caching!

Yup, it’s going to be a soaker today. The shelter is beautiful, and is a nice place to come socialize.

in reply to: Weird bug bite? #1895706

Sounds like a spider bite. You are probably incubating a sack of millions of little spiders under your skin. In a few days, they will probably break out and your skin should return to normal.

On a more serious notes, I’ve had similar reactions to horse fly and deer fly bites, minus the “pink ring”.

The pink circle sounds like symptoms of a lyme infected tick bite, but I don’t know how soon that would typically appear.

Sounds like you need a helmet mount version. You could attach a flexible goose to the top of a helmet, then bring it forward so the GPS is right in front of your face.

The helmet would even offer protection from tree limbs and falls.

An optional accessory could be some cup holders on the helmet, and a long straw so you can drink from the attached cups. This could be the no-hands hydration system. A short stick (stylis) with a bite attachement, would let you push the buttons with your teeth 🙂

(I’m just joking around. I’m not knocking your product)

That sounds like a pretty good price, especially after the coupon ! I might have to pick some up, my supply is running pretty low.

    in reply to: Lycoperdon?????? #1894672

Lycoperdon is obviously a sock puppet account.

The reviewers get an email every time someone leaves a SBA log. The LAST thing our reviewers need is some vigilanty sending out hundreds of SBA logs. If there was a need for this, Groundspeak could easily create a search to find all the disabled caches. We don’t need some goof to do this for them.

SBA logs should be handled on an individual basis. If there is a cache you’ve visited and you feel needs to be archived for some reason, leave a SBA log. We don’t need people leaving hundreds of SBA logs for caches they haven’t visited, nor have any intention to visit.

I see Lycoperdom is now a banned member. Groundspeak has obviously caught wind of his/her B.S. and has suspended them for the time being.

If you happen to own a disabled cache that was SBA’s by this user, I’d be sure to leave a log that you plan to fix the cache. If the log goes ignored, it could give the impression that you are not maintaining the cache, or even maintaining the cache page.

in reply to: Enough with the micro caches! Am I right, folks? #1892134

I “used” to dislike micros. I considered them a cheap way to flood the area with caches for people concerned with numbers.

Over the past few years, I’ve come to appreciate micros. In fact, I have hidden a couple myself.

For me, geocaching is all about location. I dislike parking lot caches, whether it’s a micros, or a pot-o-gold. I want a cache to bring me to a cool location, and a micro can do this just as well as a full size cache.

When my kids were young, they definately liked to find the “treasure” and exchange goodies. Since the kids have grown up, I no longer exchange swag. I’m content signing the log and enjoying the area.

I have seen plenty of traditional sized caches loaded with crap. Bottle caps? I was here cards, and other junk. I would bet the cache started out full of goodies, but degraded by “trading down”.

I’ve also seen some pretty lame micros. I personally feel that a piece of paper put in a plastic baggie is lame. I’ve seen some that seemed very impromptu, and poorly maintained.

I think micros have several advantages:
    – Less cost
    – Easier to hide
    – Not likely to degrade in quality (ie trade downs)
    – Less garbage in the woods if it gets lost or abandoned.

    Disadvantages:
    – Harder to find = more distruption of area by people desperate to find it.

I think that micro’s add variety to the sport, and have their place.

Good work on the presentation !!!

A very important person was omitted.

Ken Braband and I formed the team that represented the WGA and met with top state officials on several occasions. Ken, myself, and the WGA board at the time, worked with the State to formulate todays policy.

Ken’s involvement was probably most important of all.

If you have complaints about the policy, please forward to those to Ken 😀

in reply to: Is anyone still around "down there"? #1890117

It was a busy night at work. About 40 reports of flooded roads. The water was over the tops of fire hydrants in many areas. You can also throw in a mud slide near the hospital.

Round 2 is coming very soon this morning. It won’t take much to set off the floods again, since the ground is extremely saturated.

We survived the tornados. I was marking strong rotation over the City of Waukesha during the warning. I sheltered all my squads and all calls held until the storm was passed. This was potentially the most dangerous sitation I’ve seen, tornado wise, in the last 10 years. Luckily the rotation did not produce a tornado.

At home, the damn “helicopters” from the maple trees, clogged the downspouts, leading to water in the basement. No damage, just a pain in the ass.

    Here comes round 2…. 🙁

I hear that Roche-A-Cri is a nice park. I haven’t been there yet.

I believe they are also very pro-geocaching there.
