If anyone else has some photos they would like uploaded into album, please email them to me. I’d like to see more photos of cache hunts from the picnic. If you send them to me, I’ll get them uploaded to the album (with the help of our webmasters, Cachecows)

in reply to: How can i change a multi into several caches? #1745620

Yes, you can change it in to seperate caches. You basically would change the main cache page from “multi” to “regular”. Take you clue sheets out of the 1st stage. Each of the the other cache locations would need a container with at least a log book. You would then submit each of the caches as new cache pages to GC.com.

If I remember right, the last stage turned out to be in a State Natural Area. This last cache should not be resubmitted as a seperate cache. It should just be removed if you decide to break up the caches. The DNR does not allow caches in SNA’s.

If you need any help editing the “multi” to a “regular” cache, let me know, I can make the changes.

Let me know if you need any help with the process,

Read my notice in the “announcments” forum. I posted it a couple days ago.

The DNR said the policy was supposed to go in the mail last Friday. I still haven’t received it.

Great Job folks! Great article with some well worded quotes. I also loved the photos that appeared in the actual paper version.

I thought I would reactivate this thread to get everyone’s input on the mothercache/planets concept that was used at the 2003 picnic.

We tried to improve the mother cache for the picnic. Some of the items that we addressed were:

    • More caches placed (7 planets)
    • Durable surface for the actual container. If you noticed it was in a pine plantation with pine needle’s covering the ground. There was no vegitative impact to the area that I noticed.
    • More water available. We placed a well stocked cooler with 48 full size bottles of drinking water. (even the that amount of water was consumed by the 4PM)
    • Bug spray, sunblock, and bandaids were placed in the mother cache.
    • Location for mother was shaded with a bench to sit on.

I only opted to fine one of the planets. I found it too time consuming to run back and forth to the mother cache.

I’d love to hear any other comments/suggestions regarding the mother cache concept at the picnic.

I changed the coordinates on the cache page.

(Wow, just back from vacation and see a lot of new features on cache submission pages. While these may be a pain for cachers, they are a big help to the admins)

October sounds good to me also.

10/4, 10/5, or 10/11 are dates that work for me.

There haven’t been any responses from “locals” regarding breakfast on the 17th, so I decided to try again at a later date.

Not a whole lot of activity on this thread, but if you read this before coming to the park today, we’ll be using FRS radio channel 12.

I’m bringing some charcoal, so if you want to eat, bringing your own meat. I’ll have a few extra burgers.

Some of the caches you mention were removed a long time ago. I found out the hardway that you should check the cache page on the internet right before you leave. Some caches get stolen or the owner removes them. If your working off old printouts, you have no way of knowing if its missing or not.

Another tought is that the GPS has about a 30′ margin of error. In the best case scenario, your gps and the cache places gps are within the same 30′ circle. Worse case, the circles may be side by side and you need to search 30+ feet from “Ground Zero”

During the summer, the tree canopy also causes accuracy problems with some gps units, which compounds the problem.

Another thing to check is to make sure your gps is setup properly. Make sure the Map Datum is set to WGS-84. If your datum is different, you wont be searching in right spot.

Other then that, keep plugging away. Look for a few more caches with low difficulty levels. These should be easier to find an should help build your confidence.

Hmmm, I posted here 2 days ago and it disappeared.

I think we should set a definate meeting place. We can on meeting at the designated shelter, but if it’s occupied we should meet somewhere else.

If the shelter is occupied by a different group, lets plan on meeting by the snack bar on the south beach. We can meet outside by the soda machine.

I also like the idea of getting there early for lunch. My wife and I are planning on arriving at the park around 11AM. If anyone else wanted to eat before hand, we could fire up a grill for lunch at 12:00? Or perhaps grill after the meeting?
