Looks like WIcacher fixed the html code and the logo is on your page now.

    Check it out: Spooky Nook

Sounds like a good idea to me. We could contact the State Parks and see if they could recommend an area that needs cleaning up, or perhaps some other type of project.

I gave the numbers a try from my cabin this past weekend. They were all long distance

I once found a snuff container full of ice fishing bait (maggots) that I left in my coat over the summer. I opened it up and discovered many had morphed into flies. They were all dead,

Wow, what service! I can post a few questions and get them answered faster then the SBC operator could. Of course the SBC lady could have been faster if she didn’t offer to switch me over after every question

Joe, thanks for the numbers. I will try calling the Merrill number this weekend to see if it’s long distance or not.

    Thanks everyone!

in reply to: DSL or Cable? #1745201

    Wow, great responses everyone!

All that info has me thinking of a few more questions. Since I use my laptop at work and cabin very often, it’s very important to have dial-up service as well.

ISP guy (Alan): I see that SBC DSL advertises downstream speed of 384-768 Kbps and upstream speeds of 128 Kbps. I was curious why the upload is slower then the download?

Phone guy (Joe): Through your Dialup service, can you see if there is a local number near Minocqua, WI, in the (715) area code. Does SBC provide a (800) number to dial to if there is no local number? (My Compuserve has an 800 number and charges me .10 cents/min to dial into it.)

Cable Guy (Steve): Does Roadrunner let you have multiple screen names accounts? Do you know if they give you dial up access? Your test results are pretty impressive, much faster then the DSL advertised speeds.

I think Cheesehead Dave answered my cable questions. I was mid-post when he responded

in reply to: PDA (Palm o/s) programs for Geocaching #1745182

I found this handy little palm program on the Maryland Geocaching Society’s webpage.

It’s helps you keep a log of the caches you’ve found. I’m trying to get to the point where I don’t need any printouts when I cache. The GC.com Ebook customized searches are a step in that direction. This Geocaching Logbook would make a good companion to the Ebook files.

The program is called: Geocache Log Book

There is no cost to download the program.

in reply to: Permission to Place a Cache #1745240

I’ve heard several cachers mention that their local city parks had a lack of response when contacted about Geocaching.

In my personal opinion, if I didnt receive a ‘NO’, I would place the cache. City Parks are usually high traffic areas with lots of volunteer trails. I get the impression that city parks are not too concerned about our activities.

I couldn’t help but notice that out of all the COTM winners, none have posted the award graphic on the cache page. The only one I have seen posted is Team Rusch’s cache of the year for Three Card Poker.

    What gives?

in reply to: Ammo Cans #1745133

I was at Fleet Farm the other day and saw those ammo cans on sale. I picked up 4 of them at $3.00 each. They are the smaller ammo cans. They are in pretty good shape, minor nicks and dents.

    Great! thanks for the info

in reply to: Looking for statistics #1745122

Unfortunately my dial-up connection is way to slow to surf the 600+ caches to determine the type of land they sit on.

Wish I thought of this a few weeks earlier.

If anyone else can post some more concrete numbers, let me know.

in reply to: Oldest Active WI Cache #1745107

Sounds like a great idea for an article.

It looks like I was the 11th finder of the cache. Out of the first 10 finders, it looks like only 4 became active in the sport. 6 out of the first 10 finders have less then 6 finds on their scoreboard.

I’d be glad to talk about the cache and submit some photos. Do you want to email a list of questions for people to answer?

Along with comments from finders, It would be great to hear from Ken, the cache placer, about the cache history. The cache has been plundered and moved several times. Ken has done a great job keeping it Wisconsin’s oldest active cache.
